Need a fix for KOTOR on Windows 7

Post by StarSword »

On my computer (64-bit Windows 7 SP1), Knights of the Old Republic invariably crashes to the desktop before I get a third of the way through the opening level.

I've already posted this on BioWare's support forums, and other people have chimed in to say they have the same problems. Only solution anyone had the last time I checked is for the Steam version.

Has anyone got a solution that doesn't involve buying a fresh copy from Steam, or doing something weird like dual-booting Windows XP? I'm reluctant to try Steam because my internet connection sucks royally (120Kbps, 250 MB download limit or they throttle us to 6Kbps), so I'd have to take it to somebody else's house. (Not easy because it's a tower, and I don't have a car.)

Thanks, weemadando.

In my defense, the fixes I found weren't there the last time I looked.

Tested the fix with KOTOR, and it works! In case anyone's interested, here's a link.

Fuck you with the FattyNerdTM fuck stick, when someone has clearly not even fucking googled for a solution to a problem and just gone "HERP DERP ASK THE BOARD" I reserve the right to be a smug arsehole.

Are you mad because he hasn't learned how to do it? Must not be that, since you did it for him.

Mad because he is lazy? Nope, it took more effort to post this than just google search.

So what exactly is it that pisses you off? How about, since it has disrupted you so much, you try just ignoring him? Oh of course not, then you wouldn't be able to flaunt your obviously superior skill at using a search engine.

You certainly reserve the right to be a an asshole, but the apparent fact that you are a google master that has never asked a question before googling it, doesn't give you the right to be smug.

I'm not mad at him.

I'm sure if someone posted on here about a bike maintenance issue which boiled down to: "have you forgotten to check your fuel gauge" you'd probably be a smug git too.

No I wouldn't be, because I'm not a pompous dickhead that thinks OMG GOOGLE IT DUMBASS when someone asks a question or that it somehow makes me better than him.

A decision must be made in the life of every nation at the very moment when the grasp of the enemy is at its throat. Then, it seems that the only way to survive is to use the means of the enemy, to rest survival upon what is expedient, to look the other way. Well, the answer to that is 'survival as what'? A country isn't a rock. It's not an extension of one's self. It's what it stands for. It's what it stands for when standing for something is the most difficult! - Chief Judge Haywood
