Any good free game video recording programs?

A friend asked for a program that he could use to record a game of Supreme Commander 2 + his commentary, but I'm unable to find a free video+audio recording program that'll function during a full screen game. I've tried the top few results thrown up by a google search and the free ones don't work in-game or turn out to have unadvertised 30+ dollar price tags. Could you guys recommend me one?
