Most Amusing Result of an Explosion

Okay, so I'm replaying Halo. I'm at the level where you find the Control Room, the one where you get to drive a Scorpion tank.
I'm on the first bridge, almost at the other side. I know from previous playthroughs that there's a gold Elite with a plasma sword on the other side of a small wall in front of the door into the cliffside. On either side of the door, there is a plasma turret.
Not wanting to chance conventional combat against the gold Elite (why waste an entire mag from my assault rifle?), I chuck a frag grenade over the wall. The Elite dives to the side, behind one of the plasma turrets. The grenade goes off. The explosion lifts up the plasma turret. It flattens the Elite and goes over the side of the bridge.
I sit there staring, then burst out laughing.
How 'bout you guys? What was your favorite effect from an explosion in a video game?

Ones of many sites in Fallout 3 jam packed with exploding cars. Mininuke minigun. Pretty fireworks. It's either that or watching the some of the denizens of the Republic of Dave fly off after calling down an orbital strike on the place with Enclave Commander. Put that together with the Killable Children mod.

One of the earlier stages of Doom, where you can go outside of the base. There's a room that is just outside of the goal where you fight a bunch of Former Humans. I was messing with the cheat codes, so I had a rocket launcher. Messing around, I fire at the room, and happened to have been pointed right at one of the zombies.
Doom's physics being what they are, the rocket flies unerringly through the little window slit of the room. The resulting blast blows every single zombie out of the room through those tiny slits, with one of them landing right at my feet in a pile of giblets.

I think the Worms games are the best for this. A explodes, pushing B onto a mine, who then is sent flying back into the guy who shot A, sending him off the cliff. Fun times.

This. My single most deadly shot in any game was in Worms: World Party. I used the pistol to shoot an explosive barrel, starting a chain reaction explosion, with other barrels and mines, that went on for a full two minutes and killed every worm on all three teams.
On a side note, you don't have to use whole mag on a gold elite, just scoop up a plasma pistol and hit him with the overcharge, then switch back to the AR and shred his innards, shouldn't take more than half a clip that way. Failing that, needlers are your friend.

Combat Evolved wins for most hilarious explosions. Every game should use their wacky physics engine.
Ok maybe not.

This, especially when sheep are involved.

I'm surprised no one mentioned setting off the nuke in Megaton.

Playing the original FEAR, on one of the Armacham rooftop levels. In slowmo, threw a frag that went off and blew a bad guy in half. His body pieces then spiralled off the edge of the roof, and the legs wound up kicking the gu's head on the way down.

I remember in Max Payne 2 there was a part where I blew up a barrel and a piece of plywood flew up into the air and then came crashing down on my head killing me. THAT WAS FUNNY.

That's a little too obvious of one. (On that note, it's especially spectacular at night with Fellout.) There's also the instance in a New Vegas mod quest (New Vegas Bounties II, if you're wondering) of me laying down dozens of bottlecap mines around a spawn point for a fuckton of feral ghouls. The sight of so many ferals flying in the air was a moment worthy of a hearty "bwahahahaha." I fucking hate feral ghouls. Damn near pissed my pants the first time I came across one.

I seem to always end up hearing about cool explosions, never causing them.
The best I can remember causing is that, while playing original Halo where you fight through the desert to board the Covenant ship, I arced a grenade up towards a turret. The grenade sticks, then swivels and starts moving as the gunner dismounts. One of the guys in the fraternity laughs as he says "You stuck HIM. Not the turret, you stuck the grunt that was sitting IN the turret."
Watching another guy from the fraternity try to stick himself in Halo 3 was amusing...
*throws straight up*
"step, step, step Facestick!"
*boom*
And there was an oft repeated rumor in my fraternity about a video clip where some random person had earned himself a "Suicide Stick From The Grave" combo. Apparently this hapless player had thrown a last minute grenade and was killed immediately after it left his hand. The player respawns a second later, turns the corner and fails to notice the grenade stick to his foot. The grenade had apparently gone through an elevator shaft, and been spat out of the top of the elevator to end up at the feet of said player, so the player was ruled to have killed himself.
Nobody knows if it's true or not.

Carmageddeon. I recall jumping off one of the skyscrapers on the urban map with the Springs powerup., and faceplanting onto another racer. We both exploded, taking out a third car who was running close behind.
At this point, the game engine remembered that our cars had the motive properties of flubber, and our cars started flying around pretty quickly. I didn't reset my car because I wanted to see what other damage I could cause.
Not the best, but certainly one of the first I recall.

Fallout 3, I nuked Megaton at night, and at the appropriate time as well, because after the detonation, and the sky being as lit up as day, the sun rose, and the night was gone. Of course, once the sun started moving, I realized that Megaton was gone as well. This was my first playthrough, and immediately after, I felt a huge wave of guilt for destroying a town. Afterwords, I felt fine, as I preferred Tenpenny Tower as my base.
Later on in Fallout 3, when a few members of Talon company could still give me trouble, I went to the Capital Dome, upon seeing the Super Mutants and the Talon Company Mercs slug it out, I decided to backtrack, but obtained a protectron and four mercs following me. I ran backwards down some stairs, putting away my primary weapon, which was a laser pistol, and springing out my 'in case of emergencies' weapon, my missile launcher. I used VATS, targeting the Protectron, who was in the center of this huddle of Talon Company killers, and fired. The missile aimed true and the Protectron exploded. The other great thing about that is that the explosion and shrapnel from the exploding robot killed or crippled every single pursuing mercenary. With one shot, I had taken out the entire group.

For Fallout: New Vegas I was attempting to assassinate Caesar. His body guards and him were kinda giving me troubles (explosive pants and beating them to death weren't working out very well), so I dropped fuck-tons of C-4 in front of his tent, smack a bitch, then ran outside. Once him and his cronies appeared at the tent entrance I set them all off. I think most of his body ended up off in the unreachable portions of that map. Where ever it went it wasn't some place I could reach.
Another favorite from Fallout 3 was setting up a billion landmines under your dad and then setting them off. Watching him fly a couple thousand feet straight up and live (god damn it) was hilarious. As was setting him on fire and then talking to him.

Once in Jedi Knight, I recall planting a proximity mine on a bridge and commenting "now to set up a little trap" (or something along those lines). Next thing that happens is that the mine explodes in my face and throws me off the bridge to death.

Simular to the worms one, killing every single player & AI in scorch with random explosions for tank deaths, with the first shot in a game (shooting an AI tank with no shields that is exactly 0* deflection from me, results in sandhogs, crazybomb, death heads galore, killing every single human player, as well as all the AI smart tanks on the screen....

most of my friends have an unwritten rule that I'm not allowed to play co-op in any role involving explosives as I tend to follow the blow up everything mantra...
aka the Schlock Merc philopshy including placing landmines near where I know someone is bound to come, usually biting one of my allies in the backside.

Well there was a time when I was playing Red Alert, one of the expansions, with the nuke trucks in it, and was playing against another player new to the game. I had already scouted his base and was planning an attack on both flanks of his base. Suddenly I hear this massive BOOM. I jump on my radar to look at his base and find is obliterated. When he had just tried to Chronoshift one of his trucks into my base setting it and the rest he had parked about his base off leaving just his barracks left.

Experimental MIRV in Fallout 3 vs. the Behemoth and it's -friends- in the capital building. Deathtoll was massive. The head of the Behemoth wound up down a hallway somehow.

"Oh ho ho, sticky bomb likes you!" always resulted in hilarity during a multiplayer game of Shadow Warrior in the 90s.

Well, there was the time my brother and I were playing Total Annihilation with the usual "wait an hour then have a massive brawl" rule, on this skinny little map with only one bridge. Naturally we both built massive defenses at the entrance. My brother attacked first, but couldn't break through my defenses.
So, since we were playing Annihilation mode instead of Assassination mode, I cloaked my commander and walked him up to the front door. Unfortunately the commander automatically de-cloaked and starting firing his pop-gun just before his self-destruct sequence finished, so it wasn't a total surprise, but the resulting explosion basically vaporized the entire chokepoint, after which I could stroll right in.
Well, at least one of us found it amusing.
