Is there anything that isn't concept art?
PS I note the Jenner has actual hips now.

It's a laugh to read them talking about 'solving' 'problems' that haven't been an issue for game design since the 90s.

SD Gundam is going to be released in not-Asian regions soon. All they need is a mobile client and we'll be set for robit combat for years to come.
Sadly I can't migrate my Taiwanese SD account.

“If someone has played a combination of Mechwarrior, Call of Duty, and Diablo in their gaming life, they’re going to have seen everything that we’re offering for the most part.”
Way to promote your new Mechwarrior game, programmer dude.

FFFFFFUUUUUU
I mean.
It seems like they're trying to make World of Tanks. But with World of Battlemechs. Which could be okay, I guess? I suppose it'd make sense with all the C-Bill values of things and weapons and maintenance...
Who am I kidding. They'll make arbitrary numbers and unlockables, so I need to play until level 30 to have the honor of firing SRM6's.

If they had a brain they'd ditch all the baggage of the btech licence literally nobody cares about and just use the trademarks to make a cool robot game.
They won't, because it's easier to clumsily port a shit pen and paper game, but it's a nice thought.

I'm starting to think nobody wants Mechwarrior to be fixed in any way.
It's rather disheartening.

It's just kind of bizarre how devoted fans are to something so demonstratively poorly designed. People often say, "I had fun with these games" which I suppose is valid since what is a game other than something to be enjoyed. I mean I've seen that Research Indicates guy had a lot of fun with Jurassic Park Trespasser so whatevs.
I just want to make Battletech a better hero.
but how will i live if the ac20 doesnt travel 90 meters then vanish
what if it was like a big shotgun
oh i guess it would scatter hit locations then :<
and i if hear "walking tank" one more time...

Imagine if a game had lasers that lost damage over range, burst-firing auto cannons with low velocity, or any of the dozen stupid mechanics that could be made reasonable if you realised nobody cares about the licence beyond 'big robots are cool'.
Let's hope they at last make the weapons visually interesting instead of 'blando rockets missed' and 'green lines are best weapon'.

Uhm, are you boys seriously missing the idea behind an IP. If they didn't pay homage to the old fanbase, now that would be stupid.
Me I hope they do well enough, simply because I had fun playing the earlier games. (But being a cynic I think this will suck not because of the Battletech legacy, but becasue of the companies involved).

You mean like with fallout?
The btech mechabits are shit and attempting to directly translate them - like the old mw games - is just asking for trouble. Since they clearly want to make a modern game and recent big titles show you can use a licence for branding and make your own mechanics, why not at least try to make a good game?
Mech of Duty could be a good game that normal people play. Mech warrior 2.1 will get 70% and sell exclusively to fat people.

The sort of people who obsess over the specific mechanics aligning with the tabletop will buy it because of the Battletech logo no matter what. You don't want to pander to them, and you can feel free to do stuff that would alienate normal people, because they are so strange as to be alienated only by factors outside of your control. What you should do, instead, is try to market to ordinary people, or else you'll collapse back into a tiny niche and eventually die.

MW2 st al made the mistake of expecting the game to 'work' when moved from abstract combat to direct fire, and had famous problems. Changing the mechanics will allow them to be closer to the spirit of the game without aping the abstractions invented due to pen and paper realities.

They did that, it was called Mechassault, and it was basically the most popular XBox Live game on the original Xbox until Halo 2 came along and ate the service whole.
Btech fans
haaaaated it.

Oooh I remember that. It wasn't bad, but I still had more fun playing Mechwarrior 3 and 4.

Mechassault wasn't bad, what made people angry was that it did away with the relevance of the Mech hanger and customizing builds. It simplified the damage model somewhat too but the damage model in the previous games was already awful. Overall though I remember having a surprisingly good time with it.
The sequel tried to fix a lot of complaints about MA1. Sadly FASA was basically dead by this point, the old Btech nerds had sworn off the series, and any casual fans were absorbed by Halo 2 almost totally.

look buddy
building uber-mechs is part of the game
i have to be able to put 12 fire-linked medium lasers on the same two or three chassis with enough heat sinks to pound everyone's legs into the dust for 30 missions
if you don't like it, you can go play something else

Hey remember the mech game with customisation that created a vibrant, mutually supportive teamplay environment with innovative and interesting tradeoffs?
No, you don't, because they've always been broken as fuck. Of course, that's what people liked about MW2; the power players had in single player through cheesing the amazingly broken rules combined with the broken direct-fire system. I'm pretty sure everyone was convinced they were brilliant in 1996.
