Today my I recieved from Newegg some RAM and a graphics card that I purchased last week, and I attempted to intsall them. I found that my existing RAM and the new stuff were incompatible with each other (not the PC), and the graphics card was one that I could physically install.

After I uninstalled my drivers for my old graphics card and went through the obligitory restart, I shut down my computer and turns out a round of updates for Windows XP came out, and so the thing installed as per usual. After the physical intsall of the card and RAM, my computer starts beeping angrily, and I learn that that is because of my cockup in RAM pairing that I fixed, but, now every time I boot my computer, it will oftentimes say that it wants a floppy drive (not installed, and unlikely to be) and then pull up the "Do you want to run Windows in safe mode, or not?" screen, and no matter what option is chosen, the Windows XP load screen appears, and then flashes a BSOD, then the whole thing restarts.

The BSOD states:

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this error screen, restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these steps:

Check for viruses on your computer. Remove any newly installed hard drives or hard drive controllers. Check your hard drive to make sure it is properly configured and terminated. Run CHKDSK /F to check for hard drive corruption, and then restart your computer.

I am not too certain about the error code, as I used my dad's iPhone to capture the screen and I can't read most of it clearly.

Stop 7b is "inaccessible boot device." Boot off of a livecd or the Windows install CD and do a disk check to be sure your hard drive hasn't become corrupt first.

After running the CHKDSK I found that my C:/ drive was corrupted beyond repair. And thus I am reinstalling XP now.

Update:

I have spent nearly an hour trying to install Windows XP, and every time I tried, I got as far as the select partition to use, which listed a big, fat empty, I press the up arrow, and the machine spits out a stop 8e.

I have tried multiple times in the BIOS provided OS Install Mode, to no avail.

The "8e"-error is about RAM. If you have more than one module installed remove both and then reinstall only one. Should the stop 8e happen again exchange the installed module with the other one. If it still happens use (one of) the other slot(s).

If you have only one module you need to run a memtest which is part of some Linux livecds (gentoo linux has one even on the minimal install image) but there are bootable cd-images with tool collections for exactly this kind of problem.

Right now I do not have the links or names of those tool collections at hand and I'm a bit short on time. I'll try to find them later in the day though.

After reading your post, I think I've decided to go Ubuntu and see if I can't run XP via that.
Then again, my general computer skills are mediocre at best and I am effectively grasping at straws.
