Damned malware....

I just used System Restore after getting hit with "Win 7 Antispyware 2012". Urgh, it's getting to where even good sites aren't safe due to attacks via ads.
Since I'm pretty sure there are badass malwares and spywares that can evade Restore, what kind of proactive defense measures are there to stop this crap from getting into my system? I'm DLing malwarebytes ATM to go with avast!.

Adblock plus and Noscript for Firefox.
As for anti-malware I go with Mircosoft Security Essentials.

Agree on adbloc + noscript, but be warned that microsoft security essentials did poorly on late tests (sorry for the links but they fuck over forum formatting, copy paste it into your broswer's url area)

AVG's free suiteseems to do significantly better.

I've had good history with Avast, I think I've only gotten one virus while using them. NoScript helps with the 0day or older bugs that plague the Adobe products (flash, reader, etc) embedded in web pages and helps block those annoying video ads. Ads with sound need to die in a fire.
Does any other anti-virus have a feature similar to Avast's boot time scan? That thing has helped me fix more computers than I can count.

That Win7 Antispyware 2012 I've seen get past Avast on two seperate occasions (on an XP box, where it just calls itself by the proper name).
The recommendation of adblockplus and noscript is a good one. Even non-skeevy sites have problems with attack ads now, it seems.

I've installed ABP and No Script.
And yeah, when I got this I'd been viewing Spoony Experiment.
