Gaming Headsets

Post by LadyTevar »

Nit and I have a little cash from the Tax Return, and we were wondering what Headset/s would be best to purchase for online gaming.

I game via Skype, Nit does MMO Raids. What do the gamers on here use, and what do you recommend we get?

After my last Plantronics headset broke I considered for a long time what to get. If you prefer one with full earcups you could try what I got.

It would be best to state what type of headsets you're most comfortable with, fully enclosed, semi, or small earpieces. There are a lot of expensive ones, and if you ideally get an idea what they feel like. I chose mine because my local independent store had samples you could try them all on and had them rigged up so you hear the sound quality. There seems to be a lot going for the tacticool look. I saw one set that had digital camouflage, mesh headband the lot. Some seem to be more concentrating on what the headset looks like rather than quality.

Well the one I posted has USB for power and 3.5 jacks for connection. Do you prefer fully enclosed earcups like the set I posted, or smaller? If it's at all possible, it's best to try and see if you can try them on as sometimes these things can look ideal, but comfort can be an issue. Do you need a mic, that is another question.

I use this: http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Wireless ... 894&sr=8-1

The mic is pretty high quality for what it does, and it's really good about not picking up ambient noise or random sounds. They're wireless, and charge with a USB cable (comes with it). A full charge is good for like 4-8 hours of gaming, and the sound quality is adequate for everything you'd need.

EDIT: You can also just leave them plugged in while you game, since you probably wont move around much. But you can generally just wlak around the house with them, and muting it is as easy as twisting the microphone upwards.

One word of caution, though: have some duct tape handy. The headset is great in every way except for this thing where it likes to shatter at the headband, and I don't know if they've fixed that problem yet. Just get a few coils of tape around it and it's good to go.

I own a set of Astro A40's, those are generally out of peoples price range but well worth the money in my opinion.
