Seen it on TFN. Apparently Battlefront III was cancelled, so this is the footage that's left.

Why did they cancel Battlefront III anyways? the first two games were fun, and apparently sold pretty well.

Free Radical got the shaft, perhaps?

They did what?
Fuck.
Battlefront 2 was the only Star Wars game I ever played that was any fun.
...actually, are there any other games that use the same kind of gameplay?

I remember reading something in a gaming magazine about this...gameinformer I think? In any case, one of the former employees of Free Radical (which evidently got tanked at some point) said that Lucas-Arts kept blocking them from working on Battlefront 3 or releasing it. And once FR fell apart, the new company still wasn't able to work on it, and they just cancelled it now.

Granted, its from a former member of Free Radical, who would not be inclined to be nice to LucasArts, so who knows how reliable that is *shrugs*

Wait... what? You mean besides the Battlefield series that Battlefront was based on? :wtf:

Well there was Lord of the Rings Conquest, I only played the demo and while it was a nice idea it seemed not to be that great.

Plus, the servers have apparently all been shut down now.

I only picked up battlefront 2 because I played it at a friend's house, so no I don't know its pedigree or w/e
are any of those games on a modern console?
And do they have splitscreen multiplayer (the reason SW battlefront was good), and are they third-person or first-person?

Well, both are on Windows (SW:BF1 is on Mac as well), and should run well on Win7, though I've never tried it myself.

Ok! Just wasn't sure if it was a serious question, heh. :)

Bad Company 1 and 2, and Battlefield 3 are all on consoles. I don't know how they handle multi on them, though.

All infantry combat is 1st-person, with vehicles/aircraft usually having 3rd-person optional views (useful for seeing people trying to C4 your tank, for instance).

not on my netbook lol
and according to wiki, battlefield 3 doesn't have splitscreen, therefore it is worthless to me
also it reads like it's all serious shooting brown people stuff, whereas star wars battlefront was... not that

Split screen is a dying mode.

It's gotten more serious over time, yeah (though it's generally RUSKIES versus MERICA). The series used to be goofy as shit, with things like people landing Jeeps on top of in-flight B-17s and flying around the map dropping the Jeep payload on other people.

Or players named "John McCain" spending the entire round crashing planes in enemy territory.

Oh I remember the good old days of BF 1942. The stuff you could do in that game...I loved the wacky physics. Just something fun about ramming a destroyer into a carrier and almost capsizing it. :P

EDIT: The carrier that is.

Nothing funnier than your destroyer ramming a carrier and rolling it, or in Forgotten Hope sinking the Bismark with a patrol boat because the wreck glitches inside it and suddenly the Bismark is flying at 5000 mph bouncing off the surface of the water like a stone. Looking up old Stunt videos within twenty seconds I found the old "The Real Pride" video which features everything but the detpack tricks you could get up to.

Battlefield Vietnam was even better because you took the fun of 1942 tricks and added in helicopters which had all kinds of zany physics.

Sad to say BF2 ruined most of that fun and the Frostbyte engines don't have any of that. BF2 because nothing zany ever happened you just exploded or fell through the world and the fucked up collisions thing killed you dozens of times. And Frostbye has a boring semi-realistic engine that makes things act like they should but not far enough to be totally fun since everything has be done breakup points.

If Evilsoup is interested in SW games similar to battlefront, isn't there a SW mod of 1942 still around? I don't think they ported it to the later ones because Battlefront was out, but he should be able to find the original somewhere.

I don't particularly care about star wars branding (though scifi trappings do let you have wackier stuff like jump-packs), it's the gameplay + splitscreen multi I liked

I still have my PS2 lying around though, so I can always play battlebront 2 if I want

Yeah, I got BF2 recently (cheap games FTW!!) and was not impressed. It doesn't have the wacky fun of old-school Battlefield, and doesn't have the insane graphics (for a console game) of BF3. Plus you only get extremely hard to drive helicopters for flight options, at least on the X-Box version.

Sometimes I miss older video games...Medal of Honor (Allied Assault), BF1942/Vietnam...oh how I miss thee. :(

EDIT: Oh, and the original Operation Flashpoint, but I still have that game...so at least there's that!

BF2 on consoles only vaguely resembles the actual game that released on PC. This isn't even a "lol pc master race," it is literally a different game by other people.

Really? I feel ripped off now...oh well, too late now. I'd rather get an old copy of BF1942 than BF2.

Well you could get 1943 off of XBLA or PSN.
