Blackberry Plabook, Help?

Post by Aaron MkII »

I have a Playbook, yesterday it ran out of battery power and shut off, no big deal, it's done it before.

Except this time it won't recognize it's plugged in. The light doesn't come on to indicate it's charging, it won't turn on. There's no hard reset button I can find and the suggestions I'm seeing online are to pop it open and disconnect the battery and reconnect. Now I'm not even sure how to do that, so before I potentially wreck it, does anyone have ideas?

And yeah, it's out of warranty and I'll likely either take it to a shop or toss it if I can't resolve the issue, I got it on clearance at Staples so I didn't pay much.

This has always been a problem with Blackberries I've found, never had a playbook but I've ran across Blackberries by the score that did this. Pulling out the battery for ten seconds and tossing it back in will fix the issue. I don't know why it does it but I know that pulling the battery and reconnecting it fixes the issue in any case when you've not mangled the charge plug.

At a guess I'd say it sounds like shoddy manufacturing and the battery pins aren't properly connected. But if it's by the scores? Firmware problem, maybe?

And success, thank you Bean. Good thing I had an old PC tool kit laying around.

Considering popping the battery is the most reliable way to fix BlackBerries, you'd think they'd make the Playbook's battery easier to remove, without tools.

The layout of the Playbook precludes this, they don't have room for the tool free access points with how much is jammed in there to begin with. And Blackberry does not spend as much time as Apple or Motorola building in 3D so they can move stuff around easier and orgami everything.

I'm just lucky I had the right screwdriver. But how hard would it really be to have a damn door or a latch?

Should just be a different type of back but I hear RIM is in financial trouble so *shrug*
