SDN Diplomacy - part III - commentary thread

Post by Spoonist »

So anyone who wants to follow this and make rude comments can check out the status here:
http://www.playdiplomacy.com/game_play_ ... e_id=49436
to look at the latest replay etc. If people want I can post updates as they come in as well.

This was the country selection/lottery:
Turkey - Spoonist
England - OmegaChief
Tarle (Salieri) - Russia
theadvocate - Italy
Calsattack (Dr Roberts) - France
LordRelvenous - Germany
CockneyWeasel (atg) - Austria

Since there will be most certainly dropouts etc, if you are interested to take over or help someone out then state so here and get an account at playdippy (state your tag if it differs).

First comment is.

atg, says its his first time - and he got austria. That is a pretty hard country to play as a newbie. So anyone who wants to give him tips through PMs or similar would be appreciated.

Well, it's better than starting as Italy. ;)

We all know England is the best anyway.
This odyssey, this, exodus. Do we journey toward the promised land, or into the valley of the kings? Three decades ago I envisioned a new future for our species, and now that we are on the brink of realizing my dream, I feel only solitude, and regret. Has my entire life's work been a fool's crusade? Have I led my people into this desert, only to die?

Well this should be interesting :)
Marcus Aurelius: ...the Swedish S-tank; the exception is made mostly because the Swedes insisted really hard that it is a tank rather than a tank destroyer or assault gun
Ilya Muromets: And now I have this image of a massive, stern-looking Swede staring down a bunch of military nerds. "It's a tank." "Uh, yes Sir. Please don't hurt us."

So spring 1901, there is a fresh century waiting for the lily dove to settle, but what is that on the horizon, oh no its the dust of marching armies.

Image
http://www.playdiplomacy.com/game_histo ... =O&gdate=0

But something strange has happened, some sort of hoodlum convinced france and england that their new types of ships didn't require them to get wet...
Also some very passive moves from some countries, while others march forward boldly.

It looks like war is going to be short this time around...

Auto parse? Edinburgh to Norway, auto-parse? I'm sorry to say that the F doesn't stand for flight. :angelic:

If you click the "Orders" at the top it writes them out as old fashioned orders, its the same place you finilize your orders for faster turns.

I think the French Admiral just had a little too much of the old wine to celebrate his depature and then kicked the fleet into reverse instead of forwards.

Well, this certainly has been an interesting turn, even if some developments were more unpleasent than others. But I will persevere.

I see the French Admirality has yet to sober up.

Looks like the playdip website is experiencing some troubles at the moment.

Just a note since there is so little messaging going on, if everyone Finalizes their orders the turn will process right away.

So if you have done dippying for that round and think you have your orders in order you can just click Orders>Finalize and the turns will go faster.
