Hearts of Iron 3 Their Finest Hour Olde RPM Mod coop AAR

I would like to gauge the interest for an interactive hoi3 AAR. Basically we will be playing Germany and I will Role Play as der furher and others will role play as generals and ministers. We will be playing fairly historically but I cannot rule out an early attack on France in late 1939.

So what exactly IS an AAR? I see the term used a lot, but I am actually not entirely sure what it means. Embarrassing for someone who has been on the Internet since the days of AOL floppy disks, I know.

Anyway, with regards to Hearts of Iron 3, I have never played Semper Fi or Their Finest Hour, I just use the vanilla version. Is there a clear reason to upgrade? I have heard good things about the expansions, but don't really know what they change (also, for some reasons that are not entirely clear, Paradox refuses to accept my game registration, even though I bought it through Amazon, thus blocking me from downloading/upgrading through their website; so in order to upgrade I basically have to buy a new version of the game or find an illegal download).

I don't know exactly what it means either. The description seems like the old 'Lets Play!' games we had on here.

I'd do it, if there were enough interest.

AAR means after action report which is basically a let's play.

Not the same.
An "After Action Report" is written after a game is finished.
A "Let's play" takes input from the audience and uses that to the choices in the game.

People however misunderstand their use because lots of people get it wrong.

What darthkommandant want to do is a "Let's Play", not an AAR.

Thank you for clarifying that for me.

Yeah, I thought it was a Let's Play. That being said...if we do this, I call the Kriegsmarine :P

(in other words, I'll do it if we get enough interest)

Proposed house rules
I must use modded tank regiments and battalions. They are activated by decision and are unique to germany the soviets and the united kingdom.
Must build a fleet consisting of 2 BC 4s 2 BB 4s and 3 CA 4s.
Industry builds are limited to 7 parallel builds by 3 serial builds.
Must complete 1 rocket test site by 1937.
No nuclear research until 1942.
No sealion until after the defeat of Russia. I may attempt a battle of Britain and battle of the Atlantic though.

Sounds like it'll avoid some of the worst excesses of HoI "history" and make the most amusing part of the Nazis come into play: the blame shifting. I approve.

That's the goal. If anyone has house roul additions or changes please let me know and I will consider them especially if they make the game more challenging.

Could I have the air force if DarkArk doesn't want it?

How do you want to divide up the ground forces (looks like I'll be having some part in that at this point)? Also how powerful is the airforce in Hoi3 relative to the other games?

The Air Force is the only branch of the military worth spending on and all that is needed for a modern military. Clearly.

Oh be quiet Hermann. The only thing you have to show for yourself right now is gliders  . (speaking of which, what is the start date going to be?)

Screw it, I want the tanks. Give me command of the mighty panzerkampfwagen divisions  .

The start date will be 1936 because that's the only one that works with the mod I am using.

Hmm...1936...so we have for the Navy:

Graf Zeppelin would have just started construction

The Scharnhorst's would be launched late in the year

The Deutschlands should be finished by the end of the year

The Type VII U-Boats should be ready (the first batch anyway).

Plus various cruisers/destroyers that I'm too lazy to look up :P

(Note, never actually played this game (mod or no mod), so I'm going off of historical records for this)

We currently have no carrier techs and our subs are a bit out of date. So no Graf Zeppelin for or type VIi uboots for the time being. Scharnhorst, Bismarck, and Hipper classes can all be built immediately but due to shipyard limitations we are only limited to 2 heavy capital ships ( BB BC CV) and 3 heavy cruisers under construction at a time.
Also we must group planes in groups of 4 with like planes being groups together.
Also keep in mind as der furher I will be giving the Waffen SS panzer regiments and priority for upgradesover the Wehrmacht.

I'm interested. Dibs on Panzerfahren.

Also YES, every upgrade for Hoi3 is worth it because it makes the game decently playable.

I presume we'll have weekly four hour sessions?

I'm assuming you mean the panzerschiffe Blayne. I will do the starting update this weekend. Keep in mind more than one person can be in a particular service branch. Also all forces will be player controlled so once the war starts the time covered in a 4 hour update will shrink considerably. I may also cut short updates at critical moments.

I'd like to join as well. I have experience playing HoI 2 and HoI III, no idea what that's worth in this context.
I'd like to be part either of the Herr or Luftwaffe, the way I see it the Kriegsmarine is only there to serve the other branches anyway ;).
Is there a site that gives some information about the RPM mod, what changes does it bring?

Info on RPM should be on the paradox interactive modification forum for hoi 3. The changes are cheaper and more deadly air units with a much increased officer cost and a decision based armor system for Germany, the uk, the us, and the soviets. Also there is a new oob to reflect these changes
