Nvidia driver makes a black screen

So, this is one that has a thousand and one causes and proposed fixes, according to searches.

Since the 20th, any attempt to use an Nvidia driver for my video card(560M GTX) causes a black screen over everything after the windows' startup screen(The splash four dots turning into the logo). Windows is running underneath it, and occasionally there's a flicker of the screen, and if I plug in an HDMI cable, the desktop can be seen and interacted with on another monitor, but this isn't going to work long term. Diabling the driver or switching to a Generic VGA one, or operating in safe mode, has everything fine.

Anyone have a clue what to do?

Remove the drivers entirely and reinstall them. Your drivers have probably decided your monitor isn't primary (try moving your mouse and see if it appears on the 'black' screen after boot). I have no idea how to change the setting, so just strip it off and install it again.

Whilst in the black screen, try hitting winkey+p. It brings up the multi monitor setup and allows you to switch back to the primary display as the main pc screen. Had something similar happen when I was disconnecting a laptop from a TV screen.

Yes, use Driver Sweeper to completely uninstall the graphics driver and then re-install.

Got it to work. Apparently Driver Sweeper and normal methods aren't enough.. You have to use add/remove programs to get the old Nvidia out.
