Hey quick question, does anyone here know where I can find a really small and compact battery powered (nohting bigger than a single AAA or CR 123 in size really) LED light source, or something like it? Something with intensity settings would be best but I understand LED's aren't the best on that front? Still any pointers would be appreciated.
I want to hook it up to a fiberoptic with a diffuser in order to shine light on a light collecting device (another fiberoptic).

Hmm, I figure a tiny laser pointer might do here.

LED torches are available just about anywhere these days, and your local electronics store should have all the parts you need to make your own custom device if you're so inclined.

True, it's the intensity settings that is lacking in such small packages. Some custom device might be required. Gonna test with a mini flashlight first.

Re: Small battery powered light source
Companies like Led Lenser, Fenix, Olight, Tank007 (though, that particular brand is a bit lower quality than the others) etc make high-power LED flashlights. I have a Fenix that runs off an AA, can adjust between three (+2 by twisting) light levels. They can reach roughly 100 lumens, which is stronger than some non-LED flashlights do with more, bigger batteries. Fenix makes an LD01 model which can archive similar performance.
Just google "tactical flashlights" and you'll get a large variety of the stuff. As a pro-gun guy, I'm surprised you haven't stumbled into this kind of stuff before.

I am not in need of a powerful flashlight. Power is actually not a priority at all. I think the small one I bought (key chain size) is a bit on the big side. Building my own around a single white LED diode and a dimmer might be what I need todo if the flashlight I get is not good enough.

Yes I've been googling the last few days and building my own seems to be the solution.
