I just downloaded the beta and am wondering if anyone here has played it and what they think about it so far.

It might just be me but from the two matches I've played so far, the controls sort of feels clunky and not as smooth as other FPS games. Maybe if I mess around with the control setup, it'll feel smoother.

Dust being a clunky shooter surprises me.

I mean DOESN'T surprise me. :V

Tried the beta back in back in the beginning of December. Played it for a couple of days before I gave up on it.

From what I remember, first off, was that the controls sucked. They were clunky, there wasn't enough customization, and they decided to go in a different direction with the controls than perhaps every other first person shooter out there.

Also, I think in the few dozen matches I played, I saw a vehicle maybe once, and it immediately got blown up by the opposing force. Every match was only infantry, and from I recall, just one big mob of infantry versus another big mob of infantry.

Finally, there's really no documentation of what anything does in game. Yes, it's a beta, but after a few days of playing I still had no idea of what the fuck I was doing with anything, and there were no online resources available either. So in other words, a game made by the same company who made Eve Online...

The jeeps cost around 25,000 ISK and the tanks around 150,000 ISK, but no one really bothers, they get blown up pretty quick. You can get more kills on foot.

I fiddled with my controls, but combat was still awkward. In pretty much all the matches I played, everyone either mows everyone else down with a heavy machine gun or just snipes from the edges of the map. Hardly anyone uses assault rifles or submachine guns.

I'm giving up on this for now; might take another look at it once its out of beta.

Are you saying a shooter made by devs with no experience has run flat into typical genre problems?

Man, Dust 514, who is it for. It's not for people who play Eve, because anything more exciting than a spreadsheet will make their cheeto crusted hearts explode, and it's not for people who play shooters, even free to play MMO ones because they're all playing Planetside.

I should totally download it and report back.

It is free to play. Although it is PS3 only because who knows.

And the PSN store says it is in beta, which is probably an excuse if its rubbish and all.

Oh shit that's right they released an FPS on the platform worst for FPS because whining.

Its probably as bad as MAG. But what the hell is Hybrid?
