So my computer was automatically updated to IE10 week before last while I was away. Now I have compatibility issues with a lot of websites. Dropbox doesn't work with it, SoundCloud won't let me use the new interface, all of them ask me to upgrade my browser or use a compatible browser, which included IE9 (which I liked just fine).

What's the deal? Can I roll back to IE9 until MS fixes IE10 or websites catch up to the browser?

Yes you can roll back that will be 89$
For an additional 89$ I can tell you that if you go to start-control panel-programs and features then click on the link to the left that says view installed updates. For the low price of 89$ per hour I can tell you to sort the installed updates, find IE 10 then hit uninstall and you'll be good to go.

Yes, you can rollback to IE9, but I wouldn't recommend it. If you insist on having IE9 as your primary browser, you can set IE10 to emulate IE9 (lookup Quirks Mode).

Firefox. Or Chrome if you're okay with contributing, however slightly, to an inexorable process that will end with Google taking advantage of corporate personhood to run for office. Or even Opera if you fancy yourself an iconoclast.

We use Mozilla and IE here at work problem is a lot of the programs will only work with IE. So we get stuck with IE

I despise IE10, both in principal and specifically for the fucking with Dropbox. So many teachers at my school use both IE (because they are old and don't know any better) and Dropbox, it causes me no shortage of joy at having to explain to them (again) why they should change browsers.

IE10 is rather crap but IE9 was ok.

Go to Start, Control Panel, and then Programs and Features. Select View Installed Updates on the left. Find Internet Explorer 10 in the list of installed updates, select it, and then click Uninstall.

I'm fairly sure my workplace is still using IE8 (might be 7). It's kind of embarrassing.

So I went back to IE10 because IE9 was being annoying with the whole 'update me!' thing... and SoundCloud still doesn't work. Fuck's sake, Internet. Why doesn't Microsoft fix its browser to work with the new SoundCloud? Why do they hate me so much?

What's your issue with SoundCloud? Because it's working perfectly for me.

Ugh, I'm working on a client computer that needs guest network access through Cisco's java/flash applet. It's not compatible with IE10 and rolling back to 8/9 means the browser plug-ins will continually try to install themselves to the IE10 browser (that is no longer existent). So, I don't even know who to rant at: MS, Oracle, or Adobe. I assume since neither plug-in will install to IE8 after the rollback, it's an MS issue.

I'm flattening it today due to also not wanting to clean all the malware off the machine.

Same here. IT configured everything around IE8, and I guess it's easier just to keep patching security issues than to reconfigure the programs we use to work with later versions of IE.

IE10 is incompatible with a whole shitload of stuff because those services have not been updated to be compatible with IE10. I doubt Microsoft is going to give a fuck about breaking compatibility, since in order to stay in business those others have to update when MS does, or soon after.

In any case, I suggest using Firefox or Chrome (whichever you prefer, Firefox has a more similar interface), since a lot of shit works much better on those. We actually have to constantly tell our customers to install one or the other in order to use our services, since the service development for IE10 compatibility is not going to happen fast enough and people need to be able to use it. If someone doesn't like that, it's their problem.

At least we're finally migrating the fuck out of XP and on to Windows 7, with IE9 as standard IE (though FF will still be better for almost everything).
