Deadpool y/n?
I saw it in Walmart and it promises guns, girls and swords. Keep in mind that I literally just learned about him so I don't care about continuity with comics. Anyone try it yet?

Re: Deadpool y/n?
I pre-ordered it via Steam and spent an hour or two playing it. The gameplay is kinda generic and doesn't really have a lot of punch to it, and Deadpool's 4th-wall breaking antics are kinda funny... until you eventually realise he definitely needs a straight man character to play off for it to actually work. Without that it eventually gets a little tiresome.
I dunno, it's kinda fun, but in a mindless sort of way where you need to try to forget about the ways it could be better in order to really enjoy it. I've played worse games, but I honestly couldn't recommend it for its gameplay. If you enjoy the character of Deadpool, then you might enjoy it. Continuity with the comics... I... yeah, it really doesn't matter at all...
Here's the intro + first 'mission'. If you enjoy it, you might enjoy the game. If not... you probably won't, since the game is a lot of this:

Re: Deadpool y/n?
Has there ever been a good comic book based game?
I mean, I am thinking the first Marvel game that had the four characters on the screen... what was it? X-Men something, then Ultimate Alliance. That's like it.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.
Hit it.

If I had to guess, I'd say you're thinking of the X-Men arcade beat 'em up or perhaps X-Men: Legends.
I can't speak to what you would consider good, but personally I enjoyed Hulk: Ultimate Destruction and Batman: Arkham Et Cetera. I also consider TMNT: Turtles in Time and Marvel vs. Capcom 2 to be great games, though the former is more based on the cartoon, and the latter is a crossover fighting game, a genre where almost any character proficient in combat can be slotted in so long as the developer is competent.
There are other games that weren't quite my cup of tea but garnered lots of fans:
The Walking Dead
The Darkness
Spider-Man 2
Turok

The game is good (though not that great), however there is a big test of whether you like Deadpool's style of humor. If you don't, you'll find the game very irritating.
If you do, the game is solid in terms of combat, which will be the primary thing you'll be doing. Switching between melee vs ranged is not 100% smooth because you can only shoot while aiming, but it's not a big hurdle. The melee system is based around using attacks to get around an opponent's block, counterattacking (which is easier than in Batman Arkham, the B button icon appears over enemies) is simple, plus a few charge-up attacks that I keep forgetting to use.
There is some variation among enemies: aside guy-with-melee and guys-with-guns, there are behemoths (that are tricky to attack melee and do not charge at you only to hit the wall) and later, other tricky enemies (enemies that fly, enemies that teleport, enemies that throw fireballs etc).
The PC version plays well with an Xbox360 controller.

Credo!

One of several skills you can unlock lets you work your guns into melee combos, and lets you do some pretty cool gun-kata-esque stuff, which is nice and definitely opens up the combat a bit more.Zixinus wrote:If you do, the game is solid in terms of combat, which will be the primary thing you'll be doing. I wouldn't say it's a bad game by any means, it's just not amazing either. It's got its flaws, but its certainly got its strong points as well.
