I was forced to buy a computer with Windows 8 recently and I just found out that in their infinite stupidity, they removed the ability of the default photo viewer to play animated GIFs. It worked perfectly in XP, but it doesn't in 8.

For this reason, I'm looking for a replacement. A program that loads quickly, lets me zoom, scroll and cycle back and forth between images in an intuitive manner and supports all the standard formats.

IrfanView. I've used it for nearly 15 years, and it does everything you specified and much more.

Thanks for the recommendation. I've downloaded it and tried it out, and it seems to be what I was hoping for.
