did this happen only to me?

between 23:00 and 0:00 more or less today I was totally unable to connect to any website in North America, Youtube worked and finnish sites worked but nothing in USA or Canada.

Hm... I did suffer from intermittent issues now that you mention it. Not so much a total connection loss as certain sites just loading way slow.

eBay wouldn't load for me because of a DNS error at around that time. Some seafloor telecoms cable must've sprung a leak I suppose; we'll probably hear about it on the news tomorrow.

If a seafloor cable goes out of commission, the problems will last for weeks. More likely that there was some sort of lesser outage on a key trunk line or some DNS server out of commission and too much traffic congestion on alternate routes.
