The Campaign Trail (fun little online game).

Post by The Romulan Republic »

Someone posted a link to this on another forum I post on.

www.americanhistoryusa.com/campaign-trail/

I ran as Obama in 2012. I ran a good Left wing campaign. I got crushed.

I find the choices for the questions rather restrictive, but I guess that's inevitable.

Can't decide weather to play as a liberal Romney next for laughs or try again as Obama.

Is there a way to win as Wallace? I've been trying for god knows how long now. Any tips on what to say to the people so that they think I am smart?
It has become clear to me in the previous days that any attempts at reconciliation and explanation with the community here has failed. I have tried my best. I really have. I pored my heart out trying. But it was all for nothing.

You win. There, I have said it.

Now there is only one thing left to do. Let us see if I can sum up the strength needed to end things once and for all.

I tried playing as Wallace and somehow screwed up bad. Nixon ended up getting 319 electoral votes. lol

Well, I guess you have to appeal to southern racists to win as Wallace since that's your base. So sounding smart probably isn't a good idea.

Tried again as Romney but Obama ended up with 423 electoral votes. I'm a terrible politician. :)

I'd make a horrible politician. I keep wanting to say what people need to hear, not what they want to hear. :(

The problem is that I have no clue what "smart" means in the context of the 60's. And whilst I can understand some of the descriptors like for the Vietnam war I can't figure out many of the others like the economic ones. Like what do the southern states want in terms of economy in the 60's?

I keep trying to win as Obama, but maybe I'm too liberal to do it. Or maybe I'm just getting unlucky. A big problem is that I can't get Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, or Virginia to go reliably to my camp.

Edit: I always screw myself over in Florida because I just can't bring myself to endorse the embargo of Cuba.

I'm also having a tough time not leaning too far left, but not being American your center seems very, very right even compared to us here in Canada.

Lost to Romney again by 14 electoral college votes, but I managed to swing Pennsylvania to voting for Obama this time. That felt good.

Edit: I find that it actually seems helpful to not campaign in swing states much, at least if you're a liberal.

God dam it. I've tried everything and I just can't get the nation to de-desegregate. Has anyone actually won with this guy?

Wallace historically had zero chance. His brand of nonsense wasn't popular outside the South.

Funny enough I tried a "Super Racist Nixon" campaign and I got up to 400+ electoral votes but then I said something anti-union and in and instant I lost the entire south to Wallace and the election.

Wait, the south is pro union?

During Nixon time it was pro-union, he marks the big shift of the southern male from the democratic to republican party.

I ran as a brutally honest left wing Obama.
Told Arizona to fuck off, no fence or wall; defended AFA, it would reduce everyone's healthcare costs and pointing out that Romney was out of touch & spent more maintaining a horse than the average hard working American made in a year.

I won 308 to 230, got Florida, Pennsylvania and Virginia, lost Ohio by 0.8%.

That might explain why I was doing bad in the south. Any other reversals I should know before I go on another crusade to reenslave the blacks?

Heh, I ran a Romney-Pawlenty ticket and answered all questions to the left of Obama. Lost 7-531, only managed to win Utah.

I think your choice of running mate makes a difference I went with Hillary.

On my next try 1968 and it's a landslide for Humphrey/Connally! 402 electoral votes to Nixon's 90 and Wallace sucking hind tit with 45.

What did you do? What kind of answers did you give? Maybe I can use those and appeal to the northern crowds.

I doubt it, you want to re-segregate whereas I went with a strong platform of racial and sexual equality.
Plus phased withdrawal from Vietnam and getting Soviet Russia to the negotiating table to hammer out an agreement that will prevent accidentally starting World War 3.

It's actually impossible to get an electoral college win as Wallace. I tried to see what the effect would be if he was suddenly possessed by aliens and became an ultra-left wing anti-Vietnam supporter of full integration, and I didn't even see a blip in his numbers outside the South. The win condition for the Wallace scenario is not to win the electoral college outright, but to win over enough of the Southern states to prevent Nixon from getting a majority. I tried it on Easy, just to test it out, and when I successfully managed to pull it off the game congratulated me on my success even though I came in dead last in the EV count.

I know what the victory conditions are. I just can't make them. Every single time I try Nixon wins by 300+ votes and that's it.
