SNES. Go retro. :D Seriously though, I'd recommend GCN, but barring that, take the PS2.

PS2, unless you're looking for a machine that comfortably seats a family of four. Go for the XBox if so.

Hardware isn't really relevant as a deciding factor between systems of a given "generation." Only the games are. Based on this, the choice should really be "GCN or PS2?" I went PS2, primarily for Xenosaga and Final Fantasy X, though you might find games that you prefer are on another system (most notably Zelda for GCN).

The Gamecube has Rogue Squadron 2, one of the finest videogames ever :)

I have an X-Box and a PS2 at the moment. I used to have a GC, but I had to sell it (and RS2...*sniffs*) to finance my purchase of a very, VERY rare, near studio model perfect kit of the Klingon Bird of Prey put out by Tsukuda Hobbies of Japan.

X-Box is pretty damn cool. With the upcoming Doom 3 and Soul Calibur 2, I don't think you can go wrong with it, but the PS2 has a huge library of great games.

*shrugs*

If your choice is between the two only, then you can either go for the DVD player with a large selection of games, or a very expensive DvD player/ shitty computer. But I recommend the Gamecube.

I'd say the X-Box, as it has 4-player capabilities, and pretty much the same games (Unless you're looking for a certain game, then go for whichever system has that game).

And the PS2 and GCN don't have 4 player capabilities? About all the X-Box has going for it is Halo, and if you want to pay 250 bucks for a game, well, then, you sir are an idiot.

Well, there is DOAX, but that's just me.

PS2...wider selcetion, honestly.

X-Box has Halo and DOA(and that being DOAXB...fighting game wise DOA3 is way too easy and boring after a point)

Okay honest breakdown

X-Box-

Pros:

1. HDD(8~9 gigs)

2. Installed hardware for BB support

3. 4 ports(I dunno the DC had them as well)

Cons:

1. Lack of 3rd party software

2. Need add-on hardware to access full DVD capabilities

GC:

1. Nintendo(seriously their core is incredible given the sheer namesake Shigeru Miyamoto means to the Console world)

2. 4 ports.

3. Flow of 3rd party software

Cons:

1. Needs Periphals for Online support

2. No DVD capablities

PS2:

1. Enormous library(backwards capablity at it's finest barring a few hiccups)

2. Huge 3rd Party support.

3. DVD capable out of box.

Cons:

1. Periphals needed for four player.

2. Periphal needed for Online.

PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2 PS2

BTW, the PS2 is MUCH better than an X-Box as far as speed and such. And besides, why would you want to give Micro$loth any more money.

You forgot the amazingly shitty layout of the controller buttons. I swear to god, it's a mishmash that confuses me every time I pick up the damn thing. PS2 and GC controllers are smooth and refinged by comparison.

True...well actually I should've put down...huge controller as well.

The layout honestly does suck, and the Japanese version isn't much better(damn it the Sega Saturn's Six button was the fucking best...god the smackdown I could unleash...sigh)

Gamecube has better graphicss than the PS2, and MUCH better games than the Xbox. Metroid Prime, Zelda, Rogue Leader, etc etc etc.
I'd go with a Gamecube. 8)

I have a Cube and a PS2. While I really like the games I have for the Cube, I have twice as many for the P2. There are three times more games for the P2 than the Cube.

The one thing the XBox had going for me personally was the large controller. It's tough to go back and play the NES with it's smaller controllers. After that though, I don't see much reason to get, except I love consoles and want to get as many of them as I can. I played Halo, and when compared to virtually any other big name FPS out there, it sucks. However, even the controllers almost identical layout to the Dreamcasts (one of the best out there people.) I could never pick it up on a demo and play. Not worth a shit anyways.

With that said, I have both a Gamecube and a PS2. For all intents and purposes, the PS2 might have the most buttons in a damn good layout, the Gamecube's controller has to be the most fluent I've ever used. From Metroid's Tallon IV to the land of Hyrule's seas, I have no trouble at all kicking ass and taking names. Literally. I seriously believe that thanks in most part to the controller, that the outragous manuvers I can pull in Metroid, and even more so (yeah, it gets crazier folks) Zelda. With that said the Gamecube pound for pound is entertaining and fucking awesome.

However, with it's gargantuan library and versatility the PS2 really slides in there. Gran Turismo 3, Auto Modellista, Bounty Hunter, etc, etc. it's a damn tough call. The only drawback is the number of players. FUCK the adapter. I have the adapter for the PS1 and there are hardly any games. Same damn way on PS2. Games that are 4 player on all the other systems (Quake III, Medal of Honour) are only 2 player on there. If your looking for multiplayer, this ain't it. If your more of a solo individual, or a duelist than thne it's the PS2.

Accually, if I remember correctly X-Box and Gamecube are almost tied on graphics, X-Box does something like 4 (some unit) per cycle and Gamecube does 8 ever two cycles or something like that, were one does it something per unit of time, and the other doest twice as much in twice the time.

I also choose Cube cause a lot of the big PS titles are going to cube, Megaman X series is returning, as well as Final Fantasy, and I think their are rumors of the Metal Gear series in coming back to the big N. Soul Caliber 2 is their too, and I'll have to rent it to play as Link(WOOWOO). Plus(unless Microsoft goes through with buying Sega) it'll have Sonic too. With Mario, Link, Sonic, and Megaman, the Gamecube has the 4 greatest legends of Video Game history.

Shit, didn't know about Megaman. HOpefully they'll stop fucking the game over and make it kick ass again. Like the X series. Drop the damn Legends 3D crap too.

Gamecube is getting Rogue Squadron III. That was listed in the back of my EGM, I think they're having a big article about it next month.

RSIII better damn well not be rushed, you can see where they cut corners(Slave 1, exsplosions) in RSII that I think could have made the game on a whole enjoyable.
