The only shoot-em-up you'd be able to play with an analog modem is probably Soldat. Other than that, I'm afraid you're basically out of luck :(

Soldat. Absolutely. Less than a 9 meg download, and fun as hell.

Oh shit yea, the rockets in Q3 suck. You can play pinball with your opponents, but that get's boring after about the 60th frag. Now Quake, you had one chance. heh. A well placed rocket was a sure frag.

Slow connection action players should try Soldat. It's fantastic. After that, dig up a copy of Serious Sam. It's fun to hell, and cheap too. Co-Op mode rules any other multiplayer mode, anyway.

Co-op is the greatest form of multiplayer and always will be...whether it's against the computer in a story like you would with a single (btw..what is with designers not giving that anymore?...the last I've seen it was with system shock 2! I want to tear around space with another freelancer on my wing thank you!)

it seems designers stopped caring what the public actually want long ago

Except for Croteam and Serious Sam or Serious Sam: SE. Really. It's basically Doom, though, with hordes of pointless enemies, classic and uninspired weapons, and pointless level design geared mainly to giving you vast arenas to shoot things - and I mean a LOT of things - in.

Although I hear that Halo has Co-op. Anyone confirm this? I know it's coming to the PC soon and if it's half as good as I've heard AND has coop mode, I may pick it up.

Yeah the X-Box has two player co-op.

It made it pretty fun for my friend and me.

I used to play Quake3 on a 56k and it wasn't too bad.

HalfLife and its mods work quite well on a 200+ ping connection

In fact, you don't need to lead your shots that much

The original Unreal Tournament works OK on a dialup, although you do tend to get laggy with a ping around 300. The only problem I can see you having is getting the latest update to version 436 (unless you recently purchased UT, that is).

UT2k3 has slightly better optimized network code, IIRC, but the graphics should be switched to OpenGL if you want it to run anywhere near smooth.
