They HAVE to be people dressed up right, with a cg background?

I literally do not believe my eyes. When I see confirmed news from Valve themselves, then I'll believe that's in-game.

Given technology nowadays, I wouldn't be surprised.
Expect this to be another Duke Nukem Forever though.

I don't think thats real, the guy doesn't seem to fit in with the background or the alien.

It doesn't look right, IMHO.

That doesn't look like in game footage, more like a blue screen combo of a real person, CGI alien, real background and CGI gun in the foreground all shot separately

I already knew it was fake because of comparing the doors with the walls.

As I said earlier, I'll believe HL2 is out when I'm playing it...

I'm behind Beowulf...seriously saying something is showcasing at E3 means so little to me.
Just means they have something...not even a real beta.
When I'm hearing Beta testing, then maybe.

A new engine, huh?
Looks like the people at Valve have outdone themselves again, if this report is correct. Although I sincerely hope that the engine can use OpenGL as well, because I'm not too impressed by some of DirectX 9's features.

I show these to my friend, and he says "Looks low-poly to me. blah blah, it sucks compared to UT2k3 or Unreal 2". Shows how much he knows. Polycounts mean nothing now that bump-mapping and self-shading joined the graphics scene.

The problem is that the pictures were 1) printed in a magazine and 2) scanned. They're far less detailed than the original screenshots were.
Did he miss the part where a single player model runs at around 5k polys?
