Ok, my mom has an art show soon and she owes me money for working for her, at the local office supply store they have Buldar's Gate 1 with expansion for $25 and Buldar's Gate 2 for $25.
Which should I get?

Neither. Get Auto Modellista for the PS2

Thank you for your completely FUCKING useless advice.

Baldur Gate 2...far superior to BG1 in many respects(that and if you can find the expansion for more wild fun)

It wasn't useless. I recommended a very entertaining video game. One that won't get you laughed at.

My advice? Get both. BG1 is less visually appealing, perhaps, but if you play it through from the beginning, you can carry your character over to BG2.
Of course, I played BG2 first, and it was much fun. Though, to be honest, the combat can get really damned annoying at times. If you can, try to find Planescape: Torment.

Okay folks, load up on the fire and acid-based weaponry, we got ourselves a live one here!
Seriously Cal, he's asking for advice on what PC game to get, and you offer a suggestion to get a console game. That is worthless advice if he doesn't have that said console. Secondly, why would anyone laugh at him for getting Baldur's Gate or Baldur's Gate 2? They've both won awards and critical acclaim up the ying-yang, and frankly I enjoyed them much than I enjoy some Console RPGs...

BG2. 'Cuz it be ye olde cooleness.
Plus if you ever get Throne of Bhaal...

Also like Hotfoot said, if you can get Planescape:Torment....is around $10...and damn well worth every damn cent.

Console and rpg in the same sentence?
If you don't like rpg's that's your problem but not everyone is enforced by your will and not everyone has consoles.
On topic...you'll enjoy the baldurs gate II pack a hellava lot more, the plot in it hasn't been beat ever since it was released....many called it the pinnacle of Bis work...there hasn't been better since...save maybe the unofficial addon by teambg
If it's possible...get them both, they are both excellent games and lead on from each other

Get the sequal of course. The screen shots let you know which games better, but BG2 just has way more depth to it. ( it pics up in storyline where BG left off on )

The last thing anyone should see is a picture of you this late at night.

If I were you, I'd look *really* carefully for the combo packs that are out now. I saw a pack that had Baldur's gate 1, the expansion, 2, etc., for about 35$ canadian.
I also saw one that had Icewind Dale 1 and 2 for 25$ canadian. I figure that's about in your range. You might even try shopping online if your local stores don't carry them. It might cost a buck more than you have, but you'll get a better deal than if you just buy one of them. S'okay?
Edit: Apparently, the *ultimate pack* version, with absolutely everything, doesn't come out until August. My fault. There is, however, a 'version 1' box set now.

Both are bloody excellent, but you'll get the most out of it if you follow the series through from the start.
Baldurs Gate
Tales of the Sword Coast
Shadows of Amn
Throne of Bhaal
And be sure you check out "The Darkest Day" by teambg, its damn good fun.

Get both. Play them through sequentially. Truly awesome gaming.

If at all possible, get both. If is has to be one or the other, I'd go for BG2. It's by and large more visually appealing, there's the NPC interaction thing, and if nothing else it's simply LONGER.
Also, get the expansions if you can, and check TeamBG for THEIR expansions.
While The Darkest Day didn't do much for me, they're pretty popular, and Shadows over Soubar so far looks nifty.
EDITed because the preview feature STILL needs glasses

If you can only get one, get BG2. Like Batman said, it's superior to it's already great predecessor in terms of graphics, length and (debatable)gameplay.

Get Baldur's Gate II, if you can't afford to get both of them. It's simply a better game then BG I.
Edit: No illegal stuff. Buy your games like everyone else, regardless of what you think of that. - Lagmonster

Nope, but yours appears to have been amputated on arrival
Anyway,
Wasn't really a fan of the shadows over subar expansion....much preferred the darkest day with the extra added in npcs you could download....that and all the encounters were four times as hard...you had to work to survive, it wasn't a given
much fun really

Get Fallout 1 and 2 or Arcanum.

That's not quite as useless as Cal. Wrights advice and actually not a bad idea( at least for the Fallouts, never played Arcanum), it's not really helping to decide between BG1 and 2, is it?
