Fun with Half-Life

I am going to assume that just about all of you have played Half-Life and agree it is one of the better FPS games ever created. It had a long and faily well done single player plot. Inteligent level design, nice weapons, etc... Well I just can't get enough of Half-Life. I finished the game at least a half dozen times before Opposing Force came out. I happily bought up Blue-Shift at full price ($30) and felt it was worth it. Well one thing thats always bugged me about Half-Life is in some ways it is a little TOO unrealistic. 50 round clips for the assault rifle (compliments Blue-Shift) that use the same amunition as the pistol and is weaker then the pistol? Give me a break.

Anyway, I have just been dabling in trying to edit Half-Life. I got an editor called Q-Ped that lets you open up the Half-Life pack files. That lets you toy with the firepower and armor settings for all the enemies. That alone makes the game fun all over again. Tweak the assault rifle up so its firepower is considerable. Do the same with the shotgun and pistol... Now you can kill Marines in a small burst. Shotguns will eat through just about anything. Not only that, I tweaked the enemies as well. On the medium setting their weapons are equal to your own. They can kick your ass if your not careful. Just three shotgun blasts at point blank range will KILL you. Course I also tweaked the endurance on the people. Barney has equal hitpoints to a soldier, Otis has a little more (gotta count the donuts he packs in his belly). The SAW has the same firepower as the Assault rifle.

Course I can't change everything. Idealy I would like to change clip sizes to make them proper. I would also like to change the information on the Assault Rifle compared to the magnum pistols. Give the assault rifle penetration (so it can go through the armored helmets and the alien grunts armor) while making the magnum more powerful but without penetration. This is totaly beyond me.

Anyone have experience in altering the weapons at this level?

Anyway, I've had other ideas for the game as well. If possible edit the original half-life so that you can have Opposing Force type soldiers to fight against. I would also like to add new weapons and have some of the soldiers carry them (like a real MP5). Some other changes would be shotgun toting Barney's, or in later levels a Barney who picked up an Assault Rifle. Another idea is a Quick Response Team unit who is basicaly a really good Barney with an MP5 or something. Maybe even have the occasional armed scientist.

I know all of this is possible, though most of it would require lots of knowledge on programing different information into the game.

One thing I would like to say is that I payed 40 dollars for Halflife, Opposing force, Team Fortress, Counterstrike, and Blue shift, and still felt ripped off by blue shift.

I got Half-life, Opposing Force, and Team Fortress in the Adrenaline Pack. I've finished all of Half-Life (might do it again someday) and I'm at the point right before the final boss in Op Force but the savegame got erased.

Nowdays I play either Counterstrike or Natural Selection.

To be perfectly honest I loved Blue Shift. It's not as long or exciting as Half-Life or OpFor, but that's kind of why I like it. You just have a quick afternoon adventure in the HL universe. I also like the fact that after your adventure G-Man doesn't show up and take a giant shit on you.
