B-17 2 Campaign - SDnet and ASVS

Post by weemadando »

The B-17 Flying Fortress "Sordid Sarah" has been activated as of April 1st 1944.

Bombadier - Rob Wilson
Navigator - Mike Wong
Pilot - Anders Russell
Co-Pilot - Dorian Kratsas (Vympel)
Top Turret - Mark Rusbridge (Spyder)
Radio Operator - Phong Nguyen
Ball Turret - Rob Dalton
Left Waist Gunner - Colin Witz (Yosemite Bear)
Right Waist Gunner - Greg Burnett (CmdrWilkens)
Tail Gunner - Ryan Crierie (MKShepperd)

Mission 1 - Brest Harbour - "Near Miss". Bullshit. We nailed that fucking harbour, 1 pier, 2 ships in port and about half of the waterfront buildings.

Mission 2 - Brest U-Boat base -
a) Nail the U-boat base but a flak burst nailed the cockpit killing myself and Vympel and starting a fire. Plane went down with all hands.

b) Divert to secondary target (Brest Harbour) due to bad weather at primary. "Complete Miss" (VERY BAD WIND JUDGEMENT on Mike's behalf). Colin and Ryan wounded by flak. Colin severely.

Mission 3 - Ruhr Valley Synthetic Oil plants 0
a) Run into half the Luftwaffe en route. Entire formation is ripped to shreds by massed Me-109s. We lost 1 engine, then something went wrong and I wasn't able to recover before the failsafe. All crew jumped and were detained upon landing.

b) - yet to be attempted -

If you want a posting I'm looking at re-starting the campaign as a squadron commander and creating multiple denizen crewed planes.

Post your name here and I'll see what I can do.

Too bad the only thing of value in Brest that wasn't under enough concrete to stop a tailboy was a couple destroyers that proved totally immune to any form of air attack.

Well they are the n00b orientation missions.

Had a Berlin raid in another campaign. Holy shit. It was dark outside during a daylight raid there was that much flak. But the worst bit is when the flak stops, because that means the fighters are coming...

Yeah, well the Germans had ten thousand or so guns of 88mm+ defending the Reich. Don't worry, in mid 1944 they only had a couple thousand fighters on hand.

Mission 3 - Ruhr Valley Synthetic Oil plants 0

b) Jumped by massed Me-109s again. Spyder nailed one, but he kamikaze'd us leaving us wingless. Everyone jumped safely.

c) Missed the target completely (horrible weather combined with inept bombing) then caught a flak shell dead centre that broke the spine and left everyone KIA.

d) -yet to be attempted-

Well let's see, there are two lumps on her, so she's not gaining altitude, and she's leaning to the left (Can't be much of a bombload after factoring in me and rob's wieght.....

Then we got all the extra toys Shepard has, and your Right Waist gunner is busy rebuilding Iraq....

Sounds like fun. But they're not selling this thing over here (yet, I hope. I loved the original B-17 :) )

What are the system specs, BTW? Will it run on Athlon 600 with 256 RAM and a Geforce 2 MX?

They better be selling it over there! It was released in late 2000. I just picked it up in a bargain bin.

Apparently, I missed it and it's no longer available. Oh well, I'll try searching bargain bins in game stores, but looks like I'm not getting to fly a B-17 in accelerated graphics...
