I bought the game on friday. It plays like a mix of risk , age of empires and
civ3.

I started a world conquest game as the germans. I have already all of europe
and africa under my control. Only the chinese and the mayas are left. The
chinese will fall soon but it will take some time to kick the mayas out of america.

I got the game today and just spent the past few hours playing it. I must say I am somewhat disappointed. Dont get me wrong, there are many things about the game that I like, such as rare resources, lots of nations with unique units, lots of wonders that provide many differant bonuses, and the military General unit is really innovative. However, once it comes to combat, it just pretty much degrades into a standard RTS click-fest. Your units are cannon fodder and are only effective in large numbers, and the differant unit types dont seem to offer any signifigant advantage over another. The only real strategy seems to be mass a large number of troops and to just send wave after wave of units into enemy territory. And there is no pause in the combat to rebuild your forces, its just a constant stream of enemy units attacking you. If you dont keep up in producing more of your own units, you will be over run and this kind of combat gets tiresome after a while, especially when you have a time limit to defeat the enemy.

Overall the game isnt bad, but it isnt great either. I must say that Empire Earth, the first game to use the multi-era/advance-through-the-ages approach to RTS genre is alot better in terms of the tactical game.
