Curse this fucking game with all your heart and souls! It HATES me! This fucker keeps telling me I "Don't have the lastest version of DirectX (JUST DOWNLOADED 9.0a ASSHOLE!) or meet minimum requirements (SEEN THE WEBSITE, MEET ALL REQUIREMENTS!)" What's the deal? The only thing that might stop me from playing is my video card and, being the unholy King of Neophytes that I am, I have no idea to check what kind I have short of tearing it out of the machine (no, I don't know how to do that either).

So how can I check and failing that, does anyone have any idea what's happening to me? I checked the damn help and tech. support on the website thoroughly, but alas, to no avail.

I want to play Generals damnit!

Right click "My Computer", go to hardware, device manager, look under display adaptors.

Just as a side note, if you don't know what sort of video card you have then that's probably the problem. Generals needs a reasonably high spec card.

Okay thanks. Well apparently my video card is a Nvida Riva TNT...guess that isn't up to par with what Generals demands.

Guess I'm out to get a new video card. *sighs* :(

TNT1 would die just trying to load up the menu, nevermind when you get to the missions. It is totally unsupported; you need a GF2-class card or better.

That's pretty damn bad. Before you replace it, make sure that your system has a spare AGP slot. If it's a name brand system what they sometimes do is have an "AGP bus" that the onbaord video uses, but don't actually provide a slot for upgrading. If you don't have an AGP slot then you may need to replace the motherboard (which may or may not involve a RAM and CPU replacement, you could probably get something cheap to match your current specs).

To see if you have an AGP slot, open your case, there will be a row of white slots near the rear of the PC (3 to 5 of them depending on the type of motherboard you have) these are your PCI slots, an AGP slot sits right above them on the board and about an inch or two back and is a brownish colour. If your motherboard isn't using onboard video then the slot will have your TNT card sitting in it (which means you'll just need to unscrew it and take it out before putting the new one in). If the video is onboard then the slot should be free (assuming that it exists).

In order to run generals you'll need at least a GF2. If you want to run it smothly you'll need at least a GF4. It you want to run it with most of the graphical options up then you'll need something from the GF4ti series. The GF4ti4200 is a cheap high performance card, the Radeon 9600 should also do the job.

Thanks guys, now all I have to do is conjur up the $100 to buy it. Why do these things have to be so darn expensive! Thanks for the info, keep it in mind when I'm out scrounging around for the spare change.

*smashes graphics card with an oversized sledge hammer*

You can spend half that and get a card capable of running Generals. Take a look...

I got Generals to run on a Pentium III 500mhz.....granted...it was powered by a GeForce III so it had a little help. Though I much prefer it on my gaming PC :D

But you really do need a beast of a system if you're gonna enjoy it.

I've got all the latest drivers. My machine is only 2 months old and i check for updates once a week.

Worst thing about C&C G is that it still works on my shitty 750 Mhz Duron thats inferior to my new PC in every way.

DirectX? Latest is 9.0a IIRC.
