Holy Ridiculous Shit on a Stick

So I picked up Blitzkrieg last night, and managed to get it to run on this comp. Clean, nice graphics, accurate units, ridiculously difficult campaign, looked good.
I started the German campain on normal difficulty (as I'd played the demo, so I was familiar with the game), pretty much how you'd expect. First mission acquaints you with various unit types, tactics, etc. I thought, OK, great. Second mission, I have to take a town held by entrenched Polish troops, armor, and artillery. They had maybe 5 tanks, 3 guns, and about 10 squads of infantry, with a few more in the surrounding terrain. I had the following:
2 Panzer IIs
1 Sdkfz 222
4 Opel-Blitz trucks (2 transports, 2 utility)
4 squads of light infantry (Mausers and a few Pzbs)
And a paradrop of 1 sniper every 10 minutes or so.
No artillery, no decent armor, and a handful of grunts to take an entrenched position of all of three of those in greater numbers. Frickin' insane. I managed to take it after losing all my armor and half my infantry (they sent me 2 more PzIIs and 2 PzIIIs later, all but one of which were lost). Jebus. Don't get me started on the French mission after that...

I've been thinking about getting that game. Has anyone noticed a tendency by some games to hamstring German forces so that they don't make their attacks such cakewalks as early on it was? For instance in Hearts of Iron, by the end of the game if I was doing well enough I was launching amphibious invasions of Canada then spearheading Panzers down into the US.
After 3 or 4 patches I could barely beat France into submission.

Where would be the fun in steamrollering through a game as easy as the germans did to europe?
Gives the gamer a real challenge

That's what the "very hard" setting should be for.

DEAR GOD.
I've been playing through the Soviet campaign, so far so good... until I selected an escort mission classified as "Easy". I have to escort 4 trucks to a position on the other side of the map, in forest terrain... I'm given my three T-26 tanks, as well as a sniper to scout around, and 4 AA guns defend the final position. So I start the mission out, figuring with such little equipment they wouldn't throw much at me.... I figured wrong. I sat around for a few minutes, seeing what I had and what the terrain looked like. Then I moved my sniper and tanks up slowly, covering each other, keeping the convoy a little bit behind, but not too far behind. I then organized them into a more cohesive column, 2 T-26s in front, 1 in back, trucks in the middle and the sniper in the woods to the side of the road. I moved forwars a bit more, then they hit me. With three Panzer IIIs. The front armor of which could not be penetrated by my T-26's guns. I was at every disadvantage - inferior equipment, inferior forces to bring to bear (I only had 2 in front...), restricted movement (forest to either side, road blocked in front by enemy and behind by convoy), as well as soft targets I had to protect at all costs. Needless to say, I lost. So I retried, figuring I might be able to get into a better position and make a stand. I kept the convoy back this time, and set up my T-26s at a 3-way intersection (one road to my convoy, one to the bridge, and one to where I thought the enemy tanks were coming from) and entrenched them, spread out to cover all approaches except my own... little good it did me. They came and engaged my tanks at max range, and the point vehicle was holding its own (though of course not inflicting any significant damage). I took the right tank and tried to get around their flank to hit their side armor... A couple lucky shots completely annihilated the engaged T-26, so they immediately turned on my flanking T-26 and blew it to scrap. My remaining vehicle was promptly overwhelmed and my convoy destroyed...
Well, I thought, it took them awhile to attack... so maybe I could throw all caution to the find and blitz my way to the exit point with as many vehicles as I could... haha not. They all died, blown to bits by the PzIIIs. Oi.

What I want to see is a game that lets you field some of those insane nazi creations they dreamed up near the end when they were getting desperate...

Pah!..that's what thinking your way around a game is for!
