www.POE-News.com wrote:Japan's Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp said it had developed technology that drastically raises optic-fiber communication speeds for offices and homes.
The new technology will increase communication speeds tenfold to one gigabyte per second, from around 100 megabytes per second for optic-fibre services now available, an NTT spokesman said.
This confirmed a report in the Nihon Keizai Shimbun daily.
NTT hopes to have the new technology ready for mass production within one to two years and then press ahead with commercialization, he said

My ping's perfectly fine. What I want is something that'll elevate the CPU priority of a game exe so I won't get MAJOR chop in my Quake 3 game every time some background process needs to do something...

You have Win2k, right?
Then if you can alt-tab out of Quake3 and go to the task manager, you should be able to make quake3's priority higher.

That's the thing, Alt-Tab doesn't work right.
Quake 3 runs at 640x480, my desktop is 1152x864. Windows kinda doesn't play ball too well at 640x480...

Ah one of those games which alter the desktop res directly in a non-windows friendly way.
You can bump up the ingame res cant you? (I know you can in quake 2).
Alter the res to match your desktop, then alt-tab out and then do so stuff, then alt-tab back in and reset the ingame resolution.

I can bump it up, but it's extremely cumbersome to do it _EVERY_ time I start Quake 3. Plus the whole idea of only 1 FPS for some reason doesn't fly with me either...
