So I bought Starfleet Command: Orion Pirates. I'd already played SFC 2 before and it was rather buggy, I was hoping that the new version would be more stable. Alas, not so--but at least I can download a patch to make it better right? Nope--after I downloaded the 2538 patch and installed it, it crashes out whenever I just click the 'campaign' button to start playing! I tried downloading the patch again but the same thing happens.
Anyone else have the same problem?

Busily picking nuggets out of my well-greased ass.
The starfleet command series, where good fun....is notorious for their bugs...all I could reccomend is either...keep searching for a patch that might work...or switch to stf 3 that really isn't as buggy as most...the original wasn't that buggy though....or at least not that I can remember...might it be complaining at the rig?

I play SFC:OP straight out of the box *without* the patch and I have no problems.

No problems?? Don't you have a pirate campaign that hangs up every time in the 'The Ruse' mission, ships that spontaneously blow up at startup, and when you play the romulans the fleet display doesn't show damage, etc. etc. ? 
Oh, how often do you play the single player campaign anyway?
I can't really play the multiplayer campaign now because of my shitty internet connection, and because there's apparently nobody playing it anymore in GameSpy arcade
