Which FF game would you like to get a sequell
Since Final Fantasy X is getting X-2, I was thinking, It would probly be cool to see other FF games get a sequel, so which one would you rather see get a sequel then ten?

The question would be more along the lines of which FF would be best suited for a sequel. A sequel would require a game world that concievably can occur soon after the original in game time, preserve the feel of the original, and be capable of supporting a plot strong enough to at least supplement the original story. An example of how not to do a sequel is Estpolis Gaiden -- tangental to the original story (at best) with a weak battle system and worse interface when compared to the game it's a sequel to (Estpolis Densetsu, otherwise known as Lufia 2).
FF1 and 3-5 resolved pretty much every open thread in the game and got rid of most any chance of evil returning any time soon, meaning that a sequel would have to take place significantly afterwards to have credibility (like the abortive FF OVA did with FF5). FF6 has potential, but the lack of any magic or summoning in its world in the aftermath of events there would mean pulling out a deus ex machina to bring those elements back or doing without, which would give a completely different feel to the game. This may or may not be a good idea, as the split opinion over FFX-2 already shows. FF7's ending relies on ambiguity -- any attempt to fill it in would greatly weaken the original game. I never completed FF2 or FF9, so I'm in no position to comment on those. And of course, FFX already has a sequel, prompting this thread in the first place.
Of what I've played, FF8 would probably work best -- while the far future is known, none of the details in-between are, which leaves plenty of room to work with. The world is left relatively untouched and a relative status quo is maintained in FF8's ending, with none of the massive world-changing shifts that previous games had that might compromise the gameplay or story (like the loss of magic, destruction of the crystals, or loss of summoning). We don't know what ultimately becomes of the cast, and the only villianess slain died in the far future, giving room for a new opponent to appear in the interim.
In fact, a fake FF8 sequel managed to fool quite a few people for a day. FF Gaiden was "covered" as an April Fools Day joke by TheGIA while it was still solvent -- probably one of the best forgeries I've seen, complete with faked Japanese dialogue text boxes, battle screenshots, video, and logo. The only obvious hint it was a fake was the abnormally low price (3800 yen, unheard of for even a bad Playstation game in Japan).

i dont want a sequel to 7, i want them to completely remake 7, with good graphics and more items, materia, and a whole shit load of more side quests, the world of 7 was in my opinion the best of all of them, and there was a lot they could have expanded on

Someone told me that Square wants to do that, including 8 and 9. Then Final Fantasy the movie happend, and they lost too much money to do it for now. We can still hope though.drifter god wrote:i dont want a sequel to 7, i want them to completely remake 7, with good graphics and more items, materia, and a whole shit load of more side quests, the world of 7 was in my opinion the best of all of them, and there was a lot they could have expanded on
A sequal to Seven and Eight...though not so much Eight....did anyone else get severely pissed off spending 90% of the game drawing?!
Getting a proper picture of the effects of Holy though would be amazing...in up to date graphics...

Although doing those would move away from the typical "Evil is completley destroyed and all is right with the world" MO of the FF series, that could probably be a good thing.XaLEv wrote:Why must it be a sequel? There's plenty of room for prequels which could be quite good. The War of the Magi, Jenova, all kinds of stuff.

Problem wasn't the movie...problem was that they would need to create a whole new engine since they dispose of old ones.lux wrote:

Thus re-making FF7-9...is nearly as costly as making three new games but without the guarantee that these three will sell as well as three new games.
As to sequels...none of them since the story will be inclined as basically "Looky evil we somehow forgot!"
I prefer new FF's rather then revisiting most of the old ones.(other then the occasional replay)

Give me a sequel to FF2, or whatever it's original number was. That was the first RPG I ever played just for the story. Granted, the translated dialogue sorta sucked, but it got the point across. I liked the whole Han/Leia dynamic between Edge & Rydia.

FF6-2 just has a bit of eh...as much I love the game, it just has so little sequel given it would mean someone worse then Kefka(course I think all the FF's have this problem...looky a new villain as bad as the last one)

A Sequel to FF6 (FF3 US) would be good. Still the best of all FF games. A sequel could be done well I think.
A prequel could also be very good for FF6. The previously mentioned War of the Magi for example.

6 was the best Final Fantasy, Kefka was the best FF villian ever, and from what I've played, the most sucessful(he took a fucking laser and brought the entire world to ruins, but I agree, it didn't leave much room for a sequal, so I went with my second favorite, FF1, you always have room for more evil when your fucking with time.

I think our pals at squaresoft are way ahead of you there.
