Lords of the Realms II

Post by HemlockGrey »

Fun game. Not as fun as Lords I, though. Combat interface is inferior to Lords I, I think.

Damn! I wish I could find Lords I. I'll never forgive myself for losing my copy.

Still, Lords II is a great game to play. Screw keeping the peasants happy. I think I'll just conscript them all. Use 1500+ peasants as cannonfodder while 100 knights slaughters everyone else. Fun times.

Still, Medieval is a better game. Lords offers a more complex interface and more management options, but only in Medieval will you see, in individually rendered detail, 6,000 knights, archers, and spearmen effortlessly crush the Turkish empire.

I still have it on the (dismantled) computer in my basement, but for some reason it doesn't transfer onto a disk probably. :?

I wouldn't call a horde of pixelated sprites "individually rendered detail", but yeah Medieval is awesome. Lords II is pretty fun too.

A careful balance of kicking in your enemies and ciphening off spare peasants for the armies works well

My taxation was 5%, on extra rations. When I conscripted, i onscripted until happiness was 80%then let it, and the population, rise for a few turns, then conscripted again...repeat ad nauseum...

Although, there *are* two things that I wish were in Lords II.

1) Hordes of rampaging, rebellious peasants

2) Ability to custom-design castles

Hmm...been a while since I played. But, IIRC, catapults and such were turn-based, while the actual combat was real-time. Also, you could starve the defenders out, which seems to be lacking in Lord II.

You could migrate to 'Stronghold', which does the two latter very well, but you miss the strategic, turn-based empire building of Lords. Although, as I recall, there was a Lords II 'Siege Pack' that did something along those lines. Nothing as fun as designing and setting up impregnable fortresses of doom in Stronghold and then creating an army and trying to seige the place. I built fortresses in Stronghold that I could lob huge armies at in vain, and which could be successfully defended by two dozen archers and some seige engineers.
Note: I'm semi-retired from the board, so if you need something, please be patient.

Incidentally, my copy of Lords II is freeware, nabbed off The Underdogs abandonware site. Naturally, this precludes cinematics. Does anyone have the cinematics, who wouldn't mind sending them to me?
