Design a Starcraft military base

Post by FaxModem1 »

I would like to know what the most effcent type of complex would be in Starcraft format. Basically one of those installation maps, what would be the most efficent use of that, let's say, as a complex for soldiers to be in or as a heavily guarded research lab.

Heck, let's make this a contest, and we'll need real soldiers/architects as judges and everything.

So, any volunteers for being a judge or contestant?

This is making the most efficient Starcraft installation militay base map possible.

Come on people, I want to know what people would think the best type of base/fortress would be in a Starcraft installation environment.

I'd just make a huge open are with one entrance. I'll then make a location covering the whole map and set a repeating trigger to kill everyone not on the defenders team.

I win.

I think we need some more information about it other than making an installation. Some rules for the contest.

Original SC or Brood War?
Are there any limitations on the map like size?
Must it be playable? (You get a small squad of whatever and must storm the base.)
If it has to be playable, must it follow standard StarCraft rules? (Does it have to be an RTS or can you think up something "different"?)
Must it be for Terran use?

Just a few outlines I'd like to know before deciding whether I want to try or not.

BTW I'd like to nominate Blizzards own "Wakka Wakka". Best use for a facility: Multiplayer Pacman.

Its for Terran use.

Make it where it would be like a real base in real life, a mess hall, sickbay etc.

The test is Zergs storming in by the 100s

It would work in real life, so no triggers of all attackers die, it has to be realistic

no teleporting

SC or Brood War, your choice

playable or not, it should be viewable in campaign editor for all to see

preferably playable.

Erm...maybe a base built on a plateau? With defenses everywhere obviously, and a huge garrison. That should work...

One long corridor leading into the main base. The entire corridor is lined with dozens of autocannons.

Yay!

Making an invincible base is still quite easy.

First, build it on high ground, meaning attacking units from below have a chance of missing. Also, put no entrances, meaning melee units must be air dropped in.

I'm assuming this can include all races? :P
Siege tanks all around, with Guardians and lots of Battlecrusiers, Scouts, and Scourges. The first two mentioned guarantee a swift death to any ground force. Also, keep many observers patrolling the area. Also, have many zerglings, lurkers, and hydralisks burrowed around the base. Put missile turrents too, and many archons near the center. Ghosts will be kept around for lockdown, as will medics to heal units and Science Vessels to use the EMP to lower enemy shields.

Don't forget arbiters to keep your units cloaked. And have ghosts stationed all over to lockdown Corsairs before they can use their disruption web. And make sure no nukes come along.

This is an installation map, there can't be battlecruisers and Wraiths and Science Vessels flying about.

As I said, make it like an internal military base. So you can't have things like tanks in there, well you can, but they will be hard to move.

This map has to be accessible. For instance, your units have to be able to leave if they wanted to. You can't just lock them up in there for forever.

Hmm... In that case, lots of firebats up front for fodder and ghosts in the back. Ghosts for lockdown. Then you'd want some Zealots and Zerglings for their good melee, and dragoons for their good HP and attack power.

Lastly, lots of archons. They're walking tanks.
Defilers burrowed for hit and run to weaken the enemy before they reach the base. And lots of Dark Templar

Terran only, remember? you can' have a base with mixed races, they would just kill each other.
