Some screwed-up double post occured. Some mod please lock this thread, leave the other one alone. It has a much more modem-friendly pic.

I'm not really impressed. I thought everyone hated iMacs because they were difficult to upgrade? It doesn't look like this one is going to be easy to upgrade either. Also, how are any of the advantages of the G5 dispelled? Dual 2Ghz, soon to be dual 3Ghz vs. a single 3.2? I think the G5 clearly has an advantage. What I would like to see is a race between the two. And you cannot tell me that you wouldn't like having 8 GB of RAM.. :P

A rather nice machine, actually, if not one I'd buy (I liked seperates). The Mac has a few things that this does not. (IEEE1394b, Gigabit ethernet, etc).
But why the fuck does anyone need 8 GB DDR RAM?
You probably could go higher, but 2GB DIMMs are incredibly rare and cost about $1000 apiece. (Apple historically is conservative about the amount of RAM that can go in a machine, for example, at release the SE/30 was spec'ed to 8MB but as new SIMMs came out it maxed at 128MB).

For large amounts of RAM, it's a godsend for people doing things like Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, complex Quark Xpress documents, video editing, etc. You can never have too much memory - my brother's machine has 1GB of RAM and he runs out of memory when working in Photoshop rather often.

Dual can only be used for certain functions, on average less than 30% of the time.

I'd like 8 GB of RAM. But once again, what the fuck for?

A lot of the high-end Mac software is multiprocessor-aware and has been so since the PPC604e days. Furthermore, even if a piece of software cannot be used on multiple processors, you still have another processor free to do other things in the background.

A lot of people who have dual Athlon MPs or Xeons say they love having multiple processors and wouldn't go back.
I'd like 8 GB of RAM. But once again, what the fuck for?
See above.

All OEMs and VARs use RAM to get ++profits. 1GB DDR400 DIMMs are hideously expensive as well.

I find it incredibly amusing that someone bitches about price yet has an Alienware machine.

I got this system for $1500, which is not even half of what that RAM cost. It may only have 512 MB, but it does what I need.

Also, if you really would like the 8Gb, but don't really have the money. You don't have to buy it from Mac. Buy it seperatly somewhere else, most likely you will be able to get it somewhat cheaper.

Red herring. You purchased a 'boutique' machine at a price premium. You cannot find 8GB of PC3200 SDRAM for cheap, anywhere. At any rate, Apple isn't forcing you to buy a machine with that much RAM.

I'll bet the CPU overheats when room temp goes above 80F too.. LOL

Gimme a massive Frankenstein ship that looks like Nikola Tesla dropped acid when he designed it instead. Black metal, huge water radiators, red, green, and blue lights everywhere, spikes, vacuum tubes of all shapes and sizes, integrated Lava Lamp, Plasma arc tubes, The Works! I want it to be right at home on the set of a Gothic Sci-Fi B Movie! :D

Speaking of such, have you seen those new 'Voodoo' systems? A friend of mine showed me one in some PC magazine...it was $4900, without monitor, mouse, keyboard, or speakers (those would up the price to $6900). They seem to think that extensive detail to paint jobs justifies outrageous prices ($130 for a fucking keyboard).

Wait.. that insane price for graphics on your computer/Keyboard/Other?? What is the computer (inside) like? If it's just for the pretty drawings thats rather stupid. No one comes over to stare at my computer. :P

Just because it runs at 400MHz doesn't mean it's more powerful than your old P2/400. Processors for PDAs typically are designed much differently than those for desktops.

The L372NL is NOT a laptop. It is a desktop.

It is more powerful than my P2/266. I looked at the stats. Most of them are double what my old machine can put out.

The processors are different, but 400 is more powerful than 266, is it not?

Then please post a working image link. When a computer has PCMCIA slots and someone says it's 1 inch thick, I assume it's a laptop.

I dunno, have you compared a POWER4 1.7 GHz to a Pentium 4 3.2 GHz lately?
