Having comp probs again

Post by haas mark »

Okay, then. My computer is being stupid. I'm running Windows XP Home Editin (and no, I can't change the OS, because it's not my computer, and no, the person whose computer it is won't listen to reason). Anywho, we keep coming up with this blue screen (not the blue screen of death, mind you) where it dumps to disk (whatever that means). When we turn the comp back on, it tells us that the comp has recovered from a serious error, and gives us two files that it has had problems with:

C:\WINNT\Minidump\Mini062903-03.dmp (This being the most recent one.. it changes with the date and how many times it's done it within one day)

and

C:\Documents and Settings\User\Local Settings\Temp\WER1.tmp.dir01\sysdata.xml

Now, if I were to search for both of these files, I can find the first one, but not the second one. I don't know what's going on, but the comp keeps crashing like this right in the middle of whatever. Please help....

This is, actually, a Blue Screen of Death.

The first file is the minidump file. When windows NT crashes, it outputs the first howevermany KB of RAM to a text file, so that those with much Wizardry can see what was going on.

The second is some kind of user file.

Things to Do.

1. Start->Run->MSconfig, Startup, Disable All.

2. Boot to safe mode, run virus scan.

3. System Restore back to a date before the problem started.

4. Reinstall Windows.

You can also try to load up Last Known Good configuration when it prompts you to hit F8.

Fire up event viewer and check the system log for any strange entry

Start-->Run-->eventvwr.msc

It's probebly and error or warning event

I used to get this when I was burning an Audio CD in Nero. While Nero was convering the .mp3's to .wav format the system would just go berzerk. My solution, however, was simple... Convert all my .mp3's to .wma :lol:.

As for your problem, I think you should tell us what you're doing when you get the blue screen. Or is it just at random?

It's just at random, really. For example, I was checking the system logs, and it went out on me about 2 mins ago.

This would be from one of the more recent errors:

"Error code 1000007e, parameter1 c0000005, parameter2 f95e2139, parameter3 f3d1e4c4, parameter4 f3d1e1c4."

Any strange event being what, exactly?

<-- is confused

What will this do to the files that have been made and saved since then? Would they have to be saved elsewhere?

The files you've saved will be erased, unless you don't format the drive.
