I don't think Nero and Mozilla work well together under XP. Just FYI.

I've said this before but when Nero converts .mp3 to .wav to burn to CD in my build of WinXP Pro the whole thing goes mental.

Embracer, tried reinstalling Nero?

Everyone else, Nero just bluescreened again, but this time Mozilla wasn't running. I'm going to check Ahead's website to see if there are any compatibility problems.

Okay, I downloaded a CD-burning patch from Windows Update and turned the IMAPI service back on, then burned another disc. That came out fine...but I tried burning a second one right after that and wound up with a coaster. This is the error code I got in the bluescreen:

STOP: 0x0000008E (0xc0000005, 0x8052EB7B, 0xBA723B34, 0x00000000)

I've read some messages suggesting a total un/re. Thoughts?

Okay, yeah, I managed to burn a third disc after a complete uninstall, reinstall and an update to a later version. I closed Nero and went to reinstall my scanner when I got another bluescreen.

I think Nero's the cause for most of these errors...

Something is seriously wrong with your computer. Can you post if it's referencing some sort of device driver on the BSOD?

Nope, just that error message. And I doubt there's a serious problem with my computer; I just completely reformatted C:\ and reinstalled the OS.

That error message won't do us any good as you didn't mention what DLL it had a problem with.

Just for the record, there is no such compatability problem between Nero and Mozilla. I've had both on my box for quite some time without any problems.

(btw, build 2600 is the Corp edition)

What version of Nero are you using?

Kind of ironic, considering the connotation that 2600 has...

Back on topic:

Dalton, I'm starting to wonder if the integrated IDE controller on your mobo is going haywire. First you have hard drive problems, and now your CD-RW is going on the fritz. Since one shouldn't affect the other, and it's not OS-dependent, I'd say that your mobo is at fault here.

When you get that separate IDE card, plug it in and disable the integrated IDE, then see if that helps.

It never said.

Happens with all of them.

The DVD-ROM and CD-RW are on the same IDE controller, as are both my hard drives.

I'm beginning to think that my first suspicion is true and that my hard drive is going down the shitter.

No, build 2600 refers to Windows XP in general, as it is the 2600th compile of the NT kernel. Windows 2003 is build 3790, I can't recall what NT4 and 2000 were.

The version of Windows 2000 I have identifies itself as build 2195.

That's the right one. NT4 is in the 1400 range, IIRC.

Just for kicks, disable the primary IDE controller and stick your master hard drive on the secondary IDE controller. Try to burn another CD and see if it persists. If it does, then it might be your hard drive going south. If not....it might be a controller. If its the latter, RMA the board ASAP.

Thanks, I might try that soon.
