D&D: interested in an online campaign?

Posted: 2003-07-09 02:53am
by Brother-Captain Gaius
Who here would be interested in doing a 3rd Ed. D&D campaign online? There are kinks and details to be worked out of course but I thought it might be fun. I would be DMing and campaign world would most likely be Forgotten Realms (though that's not set in stone). Due to the inherent restrictions of online play, the campaign would invariably be considerably less combat-based than most. If interested at all, please post saying as much here. Newbs and vets welcome.

....So why not just put "Interested in a D&D campaign?" as the title? STGOD suggests your making up your own rules.

Just so it is known, the following supplemental material will probably be used. These are all subject to debate.

All class books,
Epic Level Handbook (if ever applicable ),
Deities and Demigods (for shits and giggles, I have it so why not),
Most recent Dragon material, final word decided on a case-by-case basis

Pieces of Oriental Adventures will also be permitted, as Dragon above.
Sorry, no Psionics.

FR (if applicable)
Faiths and Pantheons
Monsters of Faerun

I'd be interested, but I have some questions as to the game itself, namely:
  • What system are you using? Regular 3rd ed. or 3.5?
  • What will the game be held on? IRC? OpenRPG? WebRPG?

3.0, since 3.5 is not fully out yet and as such I'm not familiar with all the changes in brings. At this point I do not intend to convert the campaign to 3.5 later on, though nothing is for sure yet, of course.

With the system and basic plan I have for the campaign I thought we could do it on these forums, assuming no objections from the mods. Its not much different from any TGOD or STGOD, so that shouldn't be a problem. Its also more convenient, as this is the place I'm getting the players anyways. It allows everyone to play while some are at work, sleeping, etc. The pace would slow down during dead hours, but like I said there are some details to be worked out. At any rate, we'll deal with those later, assuming we have enough.

So currently we have:

lux
Typhonis 1
DarthBlight

Any number of players would be fine with the plan I had in mind, though I'd prefer not to exceed 8 or 9 (assuming we get to that point).

Is Jehovah evil? Of coure I am interested... Would you like me to send you the conversions for an arcanist so we can use those? If not fine... I will be a wizard...

What method for stat determination will we use? I would recommend an 84 point for point buy system. and 10 will cost you 10 points for example...

Put me down... Debating whether to go classic Wizard or Paladin... Tough choice, as always... Of course, I could always piss people off and multiclass them...

I might be interested in a Planescape campaign, but I've had enough FR to last a life-time.

Quick question: What races allowed? All from the various books? Could one, say, use the Shade Template from the FR book to make an outcast from that society? Face it, bald, black as night, and with ceremonial fangs is in this year.

I could be a moody but outcast drow woman...No, I would go with either a grey elf or half elf...

We will probably go from scratch with level 1s, so no special races at this point. As I said, we will work out the details soon. At this point I think either FR or my own world, as it looks like mostly vets at this point and I would prefer not to noob my way around a campaign world I'm not familiar with. We've got enough players now, I'll put up another thread soon to begin the preliminary preparations. People can still join, if interested.

I f ny spaces are left I'll join. I've got the 3rd edition PHB though, and as of yet have played a grand total of 1 short campaign with those rules, so i'm not exactly what you'd call well versed in it.

Welcome aboard then. Please post your campaign world preference in the other thread.

Hell fuckin' yeah I'm in. :D

I can't believe it took me this long to find this topic. Now, to use my Belmont idea (complete with whip dagger from Sword and Fist), or a samurai from Mongoose' Quint Samurai book....hrm...

And no thanks on the bootlegs, Aly. I have my own...legally obtained, of course.... (Hey, that D20 Resident Evil thing was entirely free! 'course, the DMG ain't....)

Haven't played DnD in 4 years, I'll need to be helped a lot, but I'd be willing to play, unfortunately my internet access is going to be questionable after Saturday. I'm going up to PA to take care of my grandma, but my Uncle said he was setting up a computer and is trying to figure out how to set it up on his connection. So I'll probly have computer, but it may be a while until I get online, and worst case senario I will go 22 days without internet, and probly slaughter a shoping mall full of old people.

How the fuck do you pirate BOOKs?

But in any case, I definitely understand the urge to...acquire non-official copies. A lot of these books were overpriced. The Epic Level Handbook costs $40+, and it only has around 300 pages. That's more than $1 per page, a ripoff even for colored pages and hardcover. The Book of Vile Darkness is even worse. It costs over $30 for less than 200 pages. And the contents weren't even that good. Argh!!!
