Tiny Morrowind question

Would you prefer to play as a Breton or an Imperial?
(trying to decide between the two for a new character. Trying to go primarily magic, but want one strong combat skill, long blade, to sort of balance things out)

I tend to like Imperials more, better skills overall and of course very Roman-ish. Bretons make better spellcasters but that's about it.

I also want to ask, is there a noticeble difference between 35 alchemy and 40 alchemy?

Eh, you'll succeed in making potions more often, and once you get 45 Alchemy you can see three effects per ingredient, but aside from that, not really.
Way it works is this:
15 - one effect
30 - two effects
45 - three effects
60 - four effects

Um, five.

Wimpy spellcasters, bah!
Redguard fighter with 180str and a daedric katana enchanted to give 46 extra damage will kick your ass.

You grossly underestimate the power of alchemy.

No kidding. When my "lowly" Breton mage/alchemist is slowly bitch-slapping you with hand-to-hand (who cares if my h-t-h is shit, I'll get better eventually!) while your 180 STR redguard is hacking away at me and barely even denting my lifebar, much less leaving a lasting mark, you will know the true power of alchemy.
When I can raise any stat to the thousands and recover hp/mp by the hundreds per second while having the effects last for hours (real time), well, quite frankly you lose, monsieur Meathead the Redguard.

Levitation spell plus DD 25 Meter area Fire blasts with enough mana potitions to keep both up for around half an hour
I prefer Brenton

Breton + magic resistance shirt thingy + lots of levitate potions (at least 1 minute each) + lots of dwarven darts (these things are so overpowered it's not funny
)

You know I do believe that alchemy could well be the most over powered skill in the history of PC RPGs?

I think it's fairly obvious that God himself is just a high-level alchemist.

Well yes this game has balance issues, for instance spellcasting in general sucks: takes up a lot of energy for a tiny effect, and recharging takes way too long.

IMHO H T H is the best fighting skill out there. Once you get good at it, and sneaking (I got both of mine to 100) (BTW, you can get sneaking up to 100 easily. Go into a bar anywhere in Balmora and hit the corner. Click on the sneak stick to make your sneak sticky (I think you must click it twice) and stay there. Go to sleep. Wake up 8 hours later to a MAXED OUT SNEAK SKILL!!! Now, get yer speed up to 100 to make sneak REALLY rock!) Now, when sneaking, you can walk right up to almost ANY mob in the game, give em a swift CHOP (I do the charge attack to make certain) and they collapse. It is SO MUCH FUN to smack someone down, watch em get up, Smack em again, and watch em fall...they get up, Smack em again...lather, rinse, repeat. MUUUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAAHAAAA!!!!

Enchanting is pretty nice. For easiest results, steal and sell a large pile of crap to the drunken mudcrab, and then enchant something like a daedric tower shield to shoot out something with maxed out area and as much damage as you can get it. Then fly above a town and nuke it.
