Power Mac G5
• Dual 2GHz PowerPC G5
• 8GB DDR400 SDRAM (PC3200) - 8x1GB
• 2x250GB Serial ATA - 7200rpm
• ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
• Apple Cinema HD Display (23" flat panel)
• SuperDrive (DVD-R/CD-RW)
• Apple Keyboard & Apple Mouse - U.S. English
• Mac OS X - U.S. English
• Logitech Z-680 THX 5.1 Speakers & Monster 2-meter Cable

Now if only i had 10000 dollars and they made some halfway decent games for macs that could actually use that performance.

An atomic bomb is worthless with nothing to use it against.

Yeah, but for that amount of money how many decent winbloze boxes can you build - easily 6-7 or more depending what you put in them.

No No No, I know what to do with it now. Get every game you own, Every good game in the store and all your freinds games and install everyone of them on there then wonder what to do with the other 3 gigs of ram and 100 gigs of hd.

I can get two of my current system (Alienware P4 2.53 GHz, 512 MB DDR SDRAM, 64 MB GeForce4 Ti4200) plus peripherals for the price of that 8 GB of RAM alone.

EDIT: BTW, there is one decent game for Macs at the moment, America's Army. They just ported it to Mac this month.

What kicks me is that the Mac may be all great but the price of the software for it is out of this world.

[more shameless Mac bashing]

All the people that bitch and moan about big evil Microsoft are funny. They seem to have forgotten about Apple, which gets a $1 royalty per FireWire port made.

Damn! Believe it or not, I don't remeber hearing about this...

EDIT: And on the subject of MAC-bashing, just how good is the software selection Vs a Winblowz box?

I know, fuck, that means I've supported Macs by buying this system! Nooooo! WHAT HAVE I DONE?!

For games, Macs have Jack shit. Though to be fair, they do have a good selection of graphics programs.

And then wonder what to do with them when you realize you can't run them. After you're done with that, you can wonder how much more practical it would have been to build a top-notch AMD/Intel box and spend the remaining $7000 you would have saved going that route on a nice big file server for your use (and for LAN parties! yum...) that would have easily held terabytes of porn and music, let alone all those games you'd have sitting on your system.

Dosen't mean that system dosent rock. Anyway they do have a few games for macs. Enough to keep one marginally happy atleast.

No, straight AA:O will probably kill you. Too much M203-whoring and CS-shit (to the minor degree that its possible in AA).

If I had $10,000, I'd just spend 8 grand on a car for when I turn 16, and spend the rest on a good-enough computer I can actaully play most games on.

You could dual a 3.06 GHz P4 for much less than the G5's price. Besides, AMD's got that 64-bit chip out, meaning that 8 gigs of RAM is possible for PCs too, though I have no idea why you'd want that much ram.

And there are SATA devices for PC as well.

In short, you can build an equal, perhaps even better, PC system with much less money.

Its not like games have reached the point to justify the systems on the market now. Which i am still marginally ahead of but i may have to conced my computer will be average by the end of this comming semester.

Not this again. Apple does not receive a $1/port royalty for IEEE1394. That $1 royalty goes to the overall commitee that oversees IEEE1394, of which Apple is a member.

If you do a lot of Photoshop work, you want about 3X the amount of RAM that your largest image will take up in PS. You also want a lot for things like Quark, InDesign, various scientific applications that Apple is trying to embrace, etc.
In short, you can build an equal, perhaps even better, PC system with much less money.
Actually, for its power the top-end G5 is cost-competitive with AMD's Opteron and a lot cheaper than IA64.

For that matter, not getting 8GB of SDRAM when you aren't going to use it. 1GB DDR400 are very, very expensive.

Software selection is good, except for games. Not enough marketshare to warrent porting games over, but there are enough to entertain.

Hmm... having done some more searching around, I concede that I was not entirely correct. They used to receive that royalty alone, however.

With tha much fucking power you could run PC games in an emulator and get decent frame rates!

Note: This may be slight hyperbole, I've never used a mac or a PC emulator to know, so don't jump all over me if it's wrong.

Assuming, of course, that the games would function properly in the emulator to begin with.

It'll be interesting to see how Yellow Dog Linux will run on these new G5s...
