the best games of yesterday...
anybody remember, in the days of yore (with the 486 computers, MS-DOS, and boot disks and the like), the old games, in the era of Commander Keen, Duke Nukem I, Descent...Doom I... what were your favourite games?
Mine were Commander Keen, Duke Nukem I, Dark Forces, Doom, Secret Agent, and BioMenace.

Anyone remember Iron Slug for the Arcade Games?
"The rifle itself has no moral stature, since it has no will of its own. Naturally, it may be used by evil men for evil purposes, but there are more good men than evil, and while the latter cannot be persuaded to the path of righteousness by propaganda, they can certainly be corrected by good men with rifles."

Do you mean Metal Slug? That was out in 1996, quite a bit after the 486.Lonestar wrote:Anyone remember Iron Slug for the Arcade Games?
Let's see... F-19 and Prince of Persia were definitely fun. Lemmings was the first game I had to use a soundcard. First dedicated Windows game I can recall playing was SimEarth. Also went through countless games of Oregon Trail on the Macs in the school computer lab. Of course, Nethack. Absolute worst game would be the "port" of Megaman 3 for the PC. Pretty much threw out everything good about the game and created an Americanized version.

Red Baron, Aces of the Pacific, Aces over Europe. Yes, I was flight-sim nut.
Then there was Dune and Dune 2 (ah, so many hours...), Football Manager (in its various incarnations), All the Lucasarts adventures, Wing Commander 2, Wolfenstein 3D, Spear of Destiny and Doom, Simcity (in its various versions), a lot more I can't remember.

I swear I have been more impressed by graphics, but not as impressed with gameplay, since 1986 or so.

Gather young ones and i shall enthrall ye with stories of the Tandy 1000 8086! ......blabbers incoherantly about RGB monitors , math co-processers and tractor feed dot matrix printers.......
when i was a kid my summer addiction was a game called Starflight. you were given a shitty ship and upgraded it with money you made by mining, finding planets to colonize, and discovering artifacts....oh yeah and blowing up the ships of aliens you didn't like. The sequel was even better. Starflight II: Trade Routes of the Cloud Nebula. you were basiclly an inter stellar trader, but you had to solve thr problem of an uppity race of blobs called the spemin who, while once the whipping boys of the galaxy had suddenly become the most powerful race in the galaxy.

I LOVED this one game game, i just can't remember the damn name. You flew a few different ships on missions around this city or something, and in between the missions was a great story (part of what taught me to read, i think). it was an Epic games thing, i think. I also had One Must Fall 2097, which I think is better than any other fighting games I've ever played (DOA3 can shove it, OMF is t3h c00ln355!!!!111). I liked the Duke Nukem series, especially 2, 'cause of its purty graphics 'n stuff. I played Dark Forces a lot, but I had some crappy preview CD with only 3 missions (it came with Tie Fighter collector's edition, Behind the Magic, and both Rebel Assault games, so I guess they had an excuse)

Man, I spent way too many hours on that game. I even bought the Genesis version!Col.
