Disappointed with Elite Force 2

I bought this game about a month ago, and have only played it sporadically. What pisses me off is the crap weapons, and the linear aspect of the game. You are only allowed to plod along as the game wants you to.

First of all, I've played several missions already, and so far they've all been "bug hunts". Are there any biped enemies in this fucking game? If I wanted to fight cockroaches, I'd go down to Huntington Park. Secondly, ALL the enemies have superior firing range to your phaser!!!! These damned things can target me across a room, but I can't do the same? Screw that. And their destruction is SO inconsistent. Sometimes I have to shoot these bastards six times, sometimes two times before they blow up.

What I hate are games that are unfair so you are forced to confront a challenge only ONE way. For instance, there's a couple "light bridges" that spark on and off in certain sections, so you have to guess and jump to each section to get across. HOWEVER, this bridge is bracketed by HANDRAILS! Now, I can jump onto most any surface in the game, INCLUDING some surfaces as thin as these handrails, yet I'm not ALLOWED to do it here! What crap.

Too bad more games can't be like Deus Ex.

Yeah, I'm also getting tired of the linearity of a lot of these games. Which is why I'm really looking forward to Half-Life 2 with its not-very-linear plot...

Yep. On the bright side, Deus Ex 2 is on the way, and that should hopefully be very unlinear...

I downloaded the demo for Elite Force 2. It was bad and they should have known that there was no way it was going to compete with things like Half Life 2 and Deus Ex 2 which are also comming soon.

I got the game as part of a pack with the Armada games. It's ok I guess, but I got bored with it and just used a cheat to get invicibility. I wanted to see if the game got any better at any point. The borg are interesting but the rest of the game is just a bug hunt as you said. I doubt I'll ever pick up the game again.

BTW, the cheat for the god mode is "god", how original is that?

Raven didn't bother tweaking it from the default Quake III cheat codes.

I'm wondering: is SoF2 worth it? That'll be my next game purchase (I'm pretty much in love with the Quake 3 engine. See how long that lasts when DooM3 comes out! :P)

So, they've knocked the teeth out of the Q3 engine and have sold it to the metaphorical vietnamese whorehouse? Check.

It's a damn good game, the previews don't do it justice. There's also alot of clans online to play with, also a shit load of maps.

Play HighWire if you get it. You'll have to download it, but it's one of the best maps out there.

Can you murder Janeway? Blow up the ship? Slaughter random crewmembers?

If you can't, it's worse then the first game. If you can without getting killed/sent to the brig in 10 seconds and then lectured by someone who's supposed to be dead, it's better.

Yeah, the demo was a waste of a 10 hour download. Now if someone were to make a Jedi mod of this game where you could run around with a lightsaber and cut the fuckers up....I'd buy it just for that! :) Imagine running onto the bridge and decapitating crew members that you absolutely can't stand!

You can't touch Janeway, since I don't remember her being in the game except in the beginning. You're on the Enterprise-E pretty soon.

The game does generally disappoint. You get to fight some Romulans, Klingons, and some others later on, but not a whole lot.
I was really disappointed in the weapons. They're even more Quake-like than before. I mean, you can call something a 'Disruptor Rifle', but when it looks and acts like a sawed-off shotgun...

Some parts of the game were nicely difficult (fighting two of those giant four-legged things at once is a chore, and the Klingon boss is pretty hard), and none of the boss battles were as yawn-inducing as the final battle in the first game. And I started getting downright annoyed with all the running-around-the-EntE bullshit.
