Well, shit, a Ring victory is now looking not only possible (it always has been) but USEFUL as the rings are cooler than ever and allow you to not bend over and receive reaming from a Crab Military deck while you fumble to get out five useless cards.

On the other hand, the old Ring of Void is way more useful IMO. I mean, if you have just one card that you're trying to hold in reserve then you're SOL, but generally I'd say the ability to play five cards every turn outweighs the ability to play an extra card each turn at the expense of a 4+ chi personality.

That's why we have Soul of Toku, to do useful tasks like bending over for the Void Ring, or fetching the favor. :D

Personally, I like the personality base for Diamond. Not only do the Crane get Kurohito XP2: Badass, we're also getting Kakita Rei: Soul of Toshimoko XP. 8 Double Chi, baby! This is going to be a fun fun set.

Toku would need to have 4 chi to do that... Doesn't quite work... The Toku shuffle will return, using Toku! He can help get the ring out, though.

There are some not excessively expensive peeps with 4 chi though, like Mirumoto Gonkuro, and Asahina Itoeko.

Or Toku with a Jade Katana.

*Uses three Jade equipped Tokus to bring out the Ring of Void*

It could happen. :D

Why use Toku? And why the heck would you use a jade katana?
Blessed sword on Ginawa is 6 gold, and gains you 1 honor. Two cards needed, neither of which should be difficult to get, and which are alot cheaper than toku plus katana plus ki-rin's shrine EXP.

I hope that the new rings aren't considered MRP, so that if you want to play with the old ones, you can...

Uh, Toku is free, J. Katana is 4 gold, and Ki-Rin's Shrine XP benefits all of my people, which is why I run it.

Detail: To use three Ginawas with Blessed Swords would run 18 gold and nets you three 3F 4C peeps and 3 honor. 3 Tokus w/J. Katanas and K-R's Shrine XP runs 19 Golds, and nets me three 2F 4C (4F 6C vs any Shadowlands) peeps, plus the Shrine bonus to the rest of my force. It's a matter of taste.

I run J. Katanas because Shadowlands and Corrupt are fairly popular in my area, making it a useful item for me. And playing Crane switch, I don't really need the 1 honor from the blessed sword.

And the rings will probably be listed as MRPs.

well... 3 ginawa's with Ki-rin's shrine would have the same effect as putting blessed swords on them, the cost is the same, and the force is more consistant. Anyway, the people you bow to put the RoV in play don't need to have any chi, except more than 0. It's just the people you bow for the card.

As to the rings, they already have a precedent for two cards being named the same, and one not being a MRP of the other. Only the new rings will be legal in DE, so there isn't really any problem with old rings screwing with the balance of the game.

Are you refering to Matsu Turi's name being used for Gohei's promo version? That was certainly a weird one, and I'm not sure how the rules team would deal with him if they ever had an open tourney. He's probably be counted as another Soul of Gohei or something, but yeah, that is a precedent.

We'll see in a few months when Diamond is released. I need to order me a box of starters and boosters.
