STGOD Mark One Redux

Post by Straha »

Alright, STGOD I fizzled out, and I think we should restart it from something like fifty years after it fizzled out. However we would have to make sure that it doesn't go like the last one, below are a list of problems we had:

-Power Gaming, I'll admit it I power gamed shamelessly at times, and was a total jerk about it to in retrospect, I'm sorry. To fix it we should institue a way to penalize though who shamelessly powergame (i.e. massive Earthquakes, or millitary size losses)

- Damage Dealing- People would often type in stuff like "my nations ships open fire, destroying all of the enemy fleet in the firing arc" whereas it should have been the attacker types in "my ships open fire with everything on the enemy ships, concentrating on the dreadnoughts/battlecruisers/carriers" while the attacked would then type in the damage he took (using calcs) and type in his response as well.

- No Modship- Phongn wasn't around for a good fifty precent of the game, and at the end when we appointed Stravo it was too late to save the game. if we restart it we should get a mod from the begining, like Stravo, and have him run the entire thing, with a mod selected as a second in case he must go away, or tires of the game.

There were other things, but those were the major parts. If you guys want to retry it I'm all for it, is anyone else up for it too? And I'd think that new powers would be welcome as well.

Would persons not apart of the original be allowed in, if so I in.

This seems more like a sequel then a redo; which I think is preferable anyways.

I might be interested, depending on others reactions. I would however be fielding a new power.

In any case I suggest a bigger time leap, more like 100 years. Otherwise politics and militaries would be dominated by people who had I suggest a bigger time leap been on the front lines in the original STGOD and that would create more problems then story I suspect.

Your Idea makes since, though your grammar doesn't.

Its because I wrote it out, then decided the cut and move one sentence, that got fucked up and I thought I had fixed it. Correct version follows

Ahh yes, I understand that. It makes it easier to restart completley, or with less influence from the past.

How about scrapping the last two wars completely???

If your erasing large chunks of history, then it might as well be a total restart with the same premise. If people want to reuse a nation they can.

Sounds good, but i don't know how many of the original players we'd get to return.

I would, but I'd rather start it afterwards, I had some stuff planned out.

I might and I stress might join. For one thing I really think we need a mod and people that don't/won't listen get kicked out. The problem with making Stravo the mod was that people did not listen, including some people that helped nominate him.

Perhaps, it'll depend on the people and the format.

One other suggestion. Move the tech bar, probably to Star Wars level since that's fairly well defined and a similar style of combat, or spend some time working out what the fuck DS9 tech means.

I'd rather not move to Star Wars style. What we should probably do is write out a maximum yield load for weapons, shields, armor, etc. And also determine which technology is and isn't acceptable. For instence I would like to add Planetary shields as we have seen them in TOS, and remove the interdiction fields. The same could be done to other things as well.

I don't think its that much different from what people seemed to want and how they designed their forces. What we got certainly wasn't DS9.

What we should probably do is write out a maximum yield load for weapons, shields, armor, etc.
Doing that will take a lot of time and give no one a feel for the universe. It's only going to give less varity in ships, which is bad. Individual ships don't need to be balanced, only the overall fleets do.

Focusing too much on numbers and not on 'feel' was what caused me to ditch. I was expecting DS9, where a cloak-heavy force can make some impact. I immediately got blasted for daring to have something outside the bell curve. You can see how this might be negative for the STGOD experience.

I would have a pirate hit-n-run military with hidden and/or moving civilian and industrial centers. At the cost of total military might of course.

Id like to play as sort of a neutral territory. Like The bastard love nation of Switzerland and Las Vegas.

then i'd also go Quality over Quantity with my fleet.

Somebody say Zahn? Yes C'baoth did do similar works in the Thrawn Trilogy and you are correct in thinking that it would kick ass.

You're right, but my fear is that with such high power levels available what will happen is that Person A's battle fleet will pop out of hyper-space, BDZ Player B's Homeworld, and then jump away. Leaving player B royally screwed while Player A did nothing against the rules of the STGOD

Straha, the solution to that is a common anti-BDZ defense treaty. If player A BDZ's player B's homeworld, players C,D, and E gang up on player A.

Considering how excited I was when I first entered, I really haven't been very active in the STGOD...
