Come to think of it, I also did the 'Doom 3 delayed' topic too. Hmm. Anyway, Vivendi have announced that HL2 is due 'Holidays 2003'. In the meantime, this will ease the pain.

I can wait...soon I'll get FFTA.

And it'll come in time after I've beaten KoTOR both ways(Dark and Light)

never mind.
PlanetHalfLife wrote:Just a follow-up on yesterday's Half-Life 2 delay story: to clear things up, we have confirmed directly with Vivendi Universal that there is a delay. We've even double checked. Valve has yet to send an official confirmation or denial either way on this, and other sites are reporting that there isn't a delay based on alleged email answers Gabe Newell sent to random fans. In some cases, these mails are obviously forged.
Yes, Valve is developing Half-Life 2 and they have control over when the game is declared finished, but Vivendi is responsible for publishing the game and actually getting it in stores. And that entire quality assurance, duplication, packaging, and distribution process takes time. So Vivendi has a little bit of say in the matter too, wouldn't you say?

Now, if there really wasn’t a delay, Valve could have easily sent a two line press release out telling everybody that everything was right on schedule. But they haven’t. And considering the original Half-Life, TF2, TFC, the HL SDK, Steam, CS: CZ, and pretty much every other project Valve has been involved with has suffered delays of various lengths, this latest setback shouldn’t be surprising.

Really, this isn’t a big deal, as we should still get the game this year. Valve doesn’t want to push a crappy version of Half-Life 2 out the door just for the sake of meeting some arbitrary deadline, and I’m sure they won’t ship Half-Life 2 until it is ready.

As always, we’ll attempt to keep you posted.

A delay rumor coming out and not being true is unheard of in this mediocre industry.

Let's play a game!

Whoever can correctly guess how many times HL2 will be delayed and when its final release date is, wins!

But real question is, which will be first?

TF2?

or

HL2?

HL2 is first, and I predicy it's final release date will be ~July 04 (delayed 1 more time)

Someone had told me that TF2 was going to be released as part of HL2. I'm not really the type to go out and find any up-to-date info on games pre-release. Does anyone have any info on this?

Someone pulled it out of their ass. I haven't heard anything. It will probably happen in the HL2 "Game of the Year" edition, just like TFC 1.5 was released with the HL1 GOtY edition.

The only thing that exceeds TF2 in terms of pure vapourware is Duke Nukem Forever, which got it's title from that other vapourware masterpiece, Prey.

Update The title may well not be delayed. Vivendi's earlier announcement was apparently a 'miscommunication'.

Well I can see HL2 being released 3rd or 4th quarter of this year. From everything I've seen that game is almost complete. Given the level of hype going around that game as well as the downloads everywhere showing off the engine, I think this is a good sign. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if this false rumor was spread by Valve just to get more publicity.

As for TF2. I think its pretty clear that TF2 is no longer just bassed off of the original HL engine. It is entirely likely that TF2 was eventualy put on hold until the HL2 engine was completed. I find it quite probable that TF2 will be made and that it will use the HL2 engine. Will it be part of HL2? Not sure. They might release it together, but given how they wanted to make money seperately on TF2 I think they will not be packaged together.

And of course we have Counter-Strike 2 which will be released on the HL2 engine. Goosman and the other developers were given access to the HL2 beta engine to get the hang of the system so they can develope their mod for eventual retail sales.

And of course Counter Strike Condition Zero. Gearbox fucked up with this game and its still in production. Like TF2, I believe the game eventualy was delayed so that it could use the new HL2 engine, but this is pure speculuation.

Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if Valve told all the commercial mod authors to hang on until HL2 came out, given that the Half-Life 2 engine will far exceed any other engine in terms of modding capabilities.

Of course, Valve Software has a reputation for tighter security than Lucasfilm, so it's really hard to know what they're planning.

Well Valve has advertised that HL2 will have a superior AND easier to mod engine then just about any other game. I think that gives us a good chance at having TF2 as well as Counter Strike Condition Zero being put on the HL2 engine.

CS:CZ is too close to release on the old engine for them to stop and change it to HL2. TF2 is possible, in fact, that MIGHT be why it wasn't released with HL1 earlier, 'cause they were optimizing it for the Source engine...
