Anyone up for some chess tourney stuff? I remember we had one a while back, but that doesn't mean we shouldn't do it again!

Yes, but we should have 45 0 Round Robin or KO 3 round sets?

No. Not a single person in all the world. You're all alone in the night.

Unfamiliar with the term KO 3 round sets.

I was thinking maybe a best fo 3 games match double elimination tourney, though I am unfamiliar with Chess Tournament stylings (I haven't gone into rated play, though I do plan to around september)

Might I just make the request that everyone keep the move list, and post it too? I would find that interesting.

KO is basically elimination. Round Robin/Swiss are tournaments where no one is knocked out. The losers go tables down and the winners up. The winner is the one with most points which is defintely at either of the top tables. Usually 5 rounds is a good number of rounds. and also notation should be alegbraic for conformity.

Double elimination, like a sports tournament except with consolation brackets, is what I was thinking of.

WE'll start next monday? That gives everyone enough time to get in, and then I'll write up the brackets, and play will begin. 3 games, alternating colours to a match, if the first two are won by one person the third need not be played. Keep your move history, and post it with each results post, I'm going to be archiving these for fun.

No. What PROGRAM are we going to be using?

You could just list your moves on the board, correspondence-style, unless you want to play timed games.

Arr, I never really learned that Queen to Kings 4 stuff. Any place where I could quickly learn chess code?

OH! That, probably same thing as last time, when we used Pogo.Com and yahoo games to play the games online.

Sektor31: MOst boards nowadays have the grids on them for Algebraic Notation, where the columns are given a letter, and another the rows numbers, and then you just right down which square the piece started on, and where it ended. (like, for instence, Pawn e2 to e4)

So, once again, if you are playing please post your intent here.

I'm playing. Basically get a cheap board and write the numbers on the vertical 1 up to 8 for the White Side. A from the Dark squared Rook. Oh Here: Kramnik vs. Kasparov '97
Signs:
x = Take or Capture
+ = Check
++ = Double check
# = Check,ate
= = Promotes foor example d8=Q

Q = Queen
K = King
B = Bishop
N= Knight
R = Rook

Pawn is is there file as in capture moves e(E file pawn)xd4(e pawn killed d4 pawn and is on d4)
N for knight

for Knight and rook dual moves: when to Knights can move to d7 for it isn't "Nd7 but rather Nbd7 symbolizing the B knight moved same for rook and possibly dual Queens.

I'd prefer to play over the board via correspondence rather than Pogo or Yahoo because their notation is shitty. Also, via correspondence gives more time too think. A much beter Server is US Chess Live. It's an free account b many USCF play on there. www.uschesslive.org

I think I'll drop out of this. It's sounding too complex now. :P

But hey, if anyone want's to play Othello...

Not really thats mostly for over the board. Most sites provide notation.

Starting next Monday...either I'd have to lose on that day somehow, or not play at all. I'll be in Jacksonville the rest of the week. :(

Such a shame. I bet an SDNet Chess match could be interesting.

"God damn you, Occam's Razor! Stop being all complicated you bitch! NOT MY QUEEN!!!"

Lennox did it, with the candlestick in the reading room.
