The unfortunate fact of the matter is that the trend in society is to pass the buck until it comes to someone or something impersonal. An entire industry fits the bill to shift the blame from worthless kids and moronic parents. Jesus... the industry submitted itself to self-regulation via the ESRB ratings. Just like movies, its just the responsibility of the parents to decide what their parents can and cannot handle.

Yes, it's a fucked up cartoon. So are Jack Chick's. The best defense is still education...the cartoonist is off his chair, of course. The video game industry doesn't express its right to fuck up kids, it expresses its right to make a product available to the public.

That said...If you're a parent and you're shoving your kids in front of GTA 3, I figure you might as well hand them a CD of hardcore porn and gory horror movies, because you've deemed the kid mature enough to handle extreme fantasy (and while you're at it, turn them loose in the adult fiction section of the library).

I like the idea that games be handled like movies and porn: Purchasing restriction access based on age, with actual use solely at the parent's own discretion.
