They really fucked this one up....

Basically, using the built in temperature monitor, I noticed my board
temp kept rising all the way to 60 deg C....and going....

I tried both the english and international versions of the newest drivers,
but results were same, GPU temp constantly rising, despite no graphical
strain at all...(running windows with no 3d shit)

I finally went back to my old drivers, and now my GPU temp is fluctuating
between 42C and 43C....pretty good for no graphics load...so WTF was it
with those new drivers?

Check your damn board temperatures just to be sure (Feature of
all new FX chips is a built in temp monitor for the GPU)

Don't bother going beyond 40.72 if you want to play DVDs on your machine, too.

FX 5900, latest drivers, Core temp 41 degrees in Windows.

Although mine throttles the clock back to 300MHz when there's no 3D business happening.

Anyone know where i can get the older drivers. My dad started reading Computer Active magazine (PC skills for idiots) and decided he now know more than me about computers and downloaded the latest drivers and deleted my older saved drivers "to save space". I have a Nvidia GeForce 5600 FX with the version 45.23 drivers. I'm using XP.

DRM. The idiots are going along with the RIAA/MPAA World Domination scheme.

Translation: the thing won't let you play DVDs until you disable TV-Out on your video card.
