A new DCOM worm ....

For those of you who haven't patched your machines yet, there is a new worm going around that exploits this vulnerability. However, it actually
patches your machine and then self-destructs on 1 January 2004.

Let's say, hypothetically speaking, that I have a copy of XP I didn't pay for, how am I supposed to update?

You can still download the updates, just not the service packs. Or at least that's what friend x with an illegal copy tells me.

Go to Windows Update and patch. There are also methods to change your VLK so that you might apply SP1, but they will not be mentioned here.

Well this is intriguing, a virus writer who writes a viral antivirus...
Now only if we had more of these virii, then cyberspace would be a better place.
