Which Console?

I'm thinking of purchasing a console, and I want to know whether I should get the PS2 or the GameCube (I know I don't want the Box, not enough good games). Which one is a better buy?

Depends really, I overall think the cube is better, but I'm been gaming since I was 5 up and Cube has the sequals to all my favorite games, but people who are just getting into the console world usually go for the PS2.

Depends on what you want I guess, with PS2 you can play games like the legacy of kain series, and the best seller, GTA3, have you tried any of these, go to a gamestop or something if you haven't. Personally, I'd go with the gamecube because the graphics are better (yes, I know graphics don't make a game, but Metriod Prime and Super Mario Sunshine really rock) and has game like MP and eternal darkness and animal crossing, I have every game current game console right now, and I like it the best.

PS2. Much broader software base.

I'd personally go with the GC. While the PS2 has a broader software base, a lot of that can be attributed to the surplus of...well...crap games on the system. Not that the GC doesn't have a few terrible games of its own, but with the games out there at the moment, the only reason I'd really be wanting a PS2 at the moment would be for the Final Fantasy games not available on GC.

My personal choice would be the PS2, i just got one a few days back :D.
I think the bigger number of games for the PS2 is better then the GC.

Well depends...eventually everything is getting Vice City(because you drop the GTA label and Sony no longer owns it)

So you have basically broader selction vs Nintendo titles. That's what it come to persay.

Like it's been said, it really depends on your tastes for games. Personally i prefer my PS2 but thats because all i play is WWE games and Resident Evil clones. At the end of the day if i was just going in to it i'd hold off for a while. At the mo i'm hearing reports that the PS3 is scheduled for release next year also so is the new Xenon(sp). Don't buy a console about to be made redundant liek i did when i bought a Dreamcast.

I like Konsole or aterm  .

Don't waste money on a console. Upgrade your PC.

 I'm going to continue upgrading my PC, make no mistake. A console isn't going to prevent me from that... and anyway I went out for a very solid rig last year, so I'm good for another year or two as far as computers go.

And trust me... GTA3 and GTAVC aren't going to clinch anything for me. I have them both on computer and I will not be playing a shooter on a console. Silly idea :? It may come down to whichever has the better deal, since the only game I'm specifically looking for is Soul Calibur 2, and the rest is just a matter of what comes along.

If your primary requirement is Soul Calibur II, there's only one question you should be asking..

Heihachi or Link?

Then get the GC version...Sorry Namco's choice of Heihachi makes about as much sense if SNK put Ryu in Samurai Shodown.

Maybe just my opinion but Namco should've picked a better character and not something from their Tekken line.

As for the rest they look and sound virtually the same..a little here there difference in lighting, glare and shading, but not enough to care...and control?

You can customize any of them to what you feel comfortable with.

But then, Link is just Sophitia, and Spawn is just Rock.

Heihachi, even if he is stupidly hard to win with, is at least unique. (and after all, he's not the first Tekken character to appear either)

Vote: PS2.
Real Vote: XBOX.

Well, that would make sense, given that it's Capcom that owns Ryu, not SNK. Namco at least owns both Tekken and Soul Calibur. A better example would be dropping Geese (from Fatal Fury) or Rugal (from King of Fighters) into Samurai Shodown.

Of course, I'd have liked to see KOS-MOS as the PS2 unique character. The humor value from seeing her pull out a giant gun to counter a sword would be worth it by itself.

May be a possibility in the future, if XS II makes enough of an impact.

Definately GC. Zelda, Mario, F-Zero, Star Fox, Earthbound, Metroid...so many excellent franchises :)

I own all three major console systems. X-Box is by far my favorite, but you aren't interested so I won't bother trying to change your mind. I own all of two games on my GC: Metroid (free with GC) and Windwaker. These two games alone made it worth the $150. Of course, the PS2 also allows me to play all my old and loved PSX games. I guess it mainly comes down to a matter of taste. Look at all the games release for the systems and see which ones appeal to you more. If you love the before-mentioned Action/adventure games for GC, then by all means get one.

The GC graphics stomp on PS2, especially in the 3D effects area, but the small disc size means games like FFX aren't going to be as detailed on GC. That's just my 2 cents.
Badme wrote:Star Fox
On GC: Worst game ever. Thank God I rented this and did not buy it. This game is so linear and cliche (Sarcasm: you'll never guess who the end boss is.....), it's not even worth a second play through. You follow the storyline as if you were watching a movie, and once you get the combat system down all you have to do is count down for your counter attacks (at least windwaker had a random attack schedule for it's monsters). Sorry, but I find it's my duty to inform any and all of this game's "shittyness."

I voted for the GC it is more powerful than the PS2 which I heard that the PS3 will be out in the next year or so(not sure of this though).

But I urge you to reconsider your take on the X-BOX it has fewer games, but it is also the newest console (meaning playstation and nintendo have been around for a long time) system so in time it will, but the games that are good are far beyond those of the PS2 and GC IMHO.

Personally, I going with the Xbox. Plan on getting one in two weeks. The sheer volume of games available is not as big as the other two, but imo they seem a better quality.

What has XBOX got? KOTOR and Halo, essentially. Halo I'll get on PC, thank you, but the other... hmmm... this is turning out to be a thornier issue than I thought. The people I asked off-line all think I should get GC.

As for the weird comments...Vendetta: Link is as much Sophita as Taki is, and Spawn is Hwang in many manuvers since Rock has RANGE.

And yes Datana I know that SNK doesn't own Ryu  ...but the comment stands...a character who doesn't belong there used, or if you prefer RYO in a Smaurai Showdown game.

As for Pablo...KoTOR will eventually be on PC thus negates the need for an X-box for either game

Really? Bwahahahah... the PC marches on.
