I know many people are waiting for baited breath for Half-Life 2, and for me the knowledge that there's a Finnish army mod in the making makes it even more interesting...

My dad has a present from the Finnish army.
It's a T-72 shell casing.
When they bought some Challengers, years back, my dad went with them to teach them how the targetting systems work.

Finland doesn't use Challengers nor any other British MBT, though they did keep WW2 Comets in service through the 1970's

Maybe he's referring to the Leopard 2's that Finland has ordered for '04 (or maybe 2005, i'm not sure)

This was a good 12 years ago.
It may just have been the targetting system they bought, as my Dad works for what was then GEC-Marconi, who built radar and laser targetting systems.

Mark my words: I'll eat a bucketfull of shit if that mod progresses further than "website and few funky screenshots" stage.
There's already an excellent total conversation for Operation Flashpoint called "Finnish Defence Forces" which is a must download for anyone who has OpFlash and the Resistance addon:

Quite probably this was teh case. We bought the T-72s from Germany for the price of scrap metal and had them totally refitted with new targeting systems and other thingamajigs.

I thought our monkey model T-72s didn't receive any uprgades . . . However, the T-55s got all sorts of nifty things, like targeting computers, Swiss-made high-quality ammunition, etc.
Not sure, though. I'm known to be wrong on many occasions.

Wouldn't be the first time I got something about the FDF armored units wrong either, but that's what my dad said. As far as he knew, the T-72s had old Soviet equipment and that they were upgraded to western standards. The older tanks certainly were, so they'd actually be worth something.
